Product Release! CorkSport Redesigned Turbo Inlet Pipe

CorkSport is pleased to announce the re-release of the CorkSport Turbo Inlet Pipe for the Mazdaspeed 3, Mazdaspeed 6 and CX7. The newest version of our turbo inlet pipe has been redesigned to provide seamless fitment with OEM or other aftermarket intake systems by replicating the fitment of the factory TIP to the intake.

This popular product maintains its ability to provide improved responsiveness and power while now providing even better fitment for customers running stock or other another non-CorkSport brand aftermarket intake.

Unlike other turbo inlet pipes on the market, CorkSportโ€™s Turbo Inlet Pipe is constructed from mandrel bent aluminum making it a true high performance turbocharger inlet pipe. It has been designed with a downstream recirculation valve fitting to prevent turbulence backwash around the MAF sensor and avoid unnecessary check engine lights and stumbling.

During extensive testing, the CorkSport Turbo Inlet Pipe showed a 14% improvement over the stock pipe and significantly decreased airflow turbulence by removing the restrictive nature of the stock pipe with the sweeping curves associated with the mandrel bent aluminum 60mm piping used in the CorkSport pipe.

CorkSport has designed the turbo inlet pipe to be purchased as a standalone piece to compliment your current stock or aftermarket intake set-up or can be purchased with the CorkSport Mazdaspeed 3 Short Ram Intake for the best value on the market.

When combined with the CorkSport Mazdaspeed 3 Short Ram Intake, flow test results showed a 54% improvement over the stock air box and turbo inlet pipe and netted max gains in dyno testing of +25lbs of torque and +33HP.

Sold separately the CorkSport Turbo Inlet Pipe can be purchased for $109.00 and can be customized to compliment the look of your engine bay with polished or powder coated black aluminum piping and your choice of red, black or blue silicone. Purchase the CorkSport Short Ram Intake along with the turbo inlet pipe for an additional $140.00 to get the most gains from this power modification.

Featured Car of the Month January 2012 – Jordan’s RX-8

Jordan has always been a fan of rotary engines. His first Mazda was a 1988 RX7 T2 that he bought and then rebuilt and street ported the engine on, so it is no wonder that when the RX8 came out, Jordan was hooked.

His father always owned Corvettes and Porsches and Jordan has owned several sports cars throughout his driving career and, but nothing gives him the satisfaction quite like his RX-8 does.

Standard, the 2004 RX-8 comes with a 1.3-liter 250 HP rotary engine that is like no other. Jordan then added in a Mazdaspeed Modified Intake and a CorkSport Single Resonated Exhaust to give the car some extra boost and decibel levels 20′ outside the car off the back bumper that are 64dB at idle, 95dB at 4000rpm and 103dB at 5000rpm free rev. Inside the car it posts 72dB at 38mph in 4th gear, 94dB at 30% throttle acceleration in 4th gear and 88dB at cruise 60mph in 6th gear.

He also modified the engine with a Flex Innovations Grounding Kit, CorkSport Oil Cap, a Universal Oil Catch Can and Black Halo Racing Ignition System.

The RX-8 features a double-wishbone suspension at all four corners. The upper and lower arms in both the front and rear are considerably longer and allow for consistent grip regardless of changes in roll and camber for top-notch cornering performance so Jordan hasnโ€™t done much yet to the suspension, but now that he has gotten into autocrossing, he will be looking into getting some suspension mods. He plans to swap out his Tein S-Tech Lowering Springs for a set of coilovers and add a CorkSport Front and Rear Strut Bar Set to further improve his lap times.

To enhance the sporty look on the car, Jordan has added a Mazdaspeed front bumper, Mazda Clear Corner Lenses and 35% window tint in the front and 20% in the rear

โ€œThe car is beautiful and gets looks from people everywhere I go,โ€ said Jordan, โ€œIt is also a huge amount of fun around the autocross track. And did I mention it has a rotary engine?โ€

When Jordan isnโ€™t working, he is spending time with his longtime girlfriend and fellow Mazda enthusiast, Domii, who you may recall was profiled in our September feature.

They are both looking forward to the autocross season and we look forward getting updates on how this Mazda match made in heaven do on the track this coming year!

So what can you expect from CorkSport to start off 2012?

Early next week we will be launching the CorkSport Front Camber Kit for Mazdaspeed 3. This kit is designed to provide camber adjustability and dial in performance on the Mazdaspeed 3 with up to -3 degrees of camber adjustability.

Next we will be rolling out a new and improved turbo inlet pipe for those who are running a stock or non-CorkSport intake system. The newest version of our turbo inlet pipe has been redesigned to provide seamless fitment with OEM or other aftermarket intake systems by replicating the fitment of the factory TIP to the intake while maintaining all of the characteristics that have made our turbo inlet pipe a top selling product.

We will also be introducing our staged intake systems with the addition of a stage one CorkSport short ram intake without turbo inlet pipe for those that want to upgrade to a basic package. The stage two intake system will be our number one selling CorkSport short ram intake with turbo inlet pipe and the stage three intake system will be the new CorkSport Cold Air Intake which has been designed to push the filter away from the engine and will have the unique feature of being interchangeable with our short ram intake system for customers wanting to run a cold air intake in the summer and short ram in the winter!

We will also be launching the highly anticipated CorkSport Oil Catch Can early this year. This has gone through several iterations to find the ideal design that would provide functionality and be simple to install. The end result is an aluminum, bolt-on oil catch can that will help keep your intake clean by filtering out the junk that would otherwise end up in your intake manifold and possibly on your valves. Also to come early this year is the new addition to our CorkSport LED lighting product line with the CorkSport Mazdaspeed 3 Bumper Lights.

Featured Car of the Month December 2011 – Matt Kellogg

Matthew Kellogg almost got sucked into the American muscle car scene when he was 19. Thankfully his older brother owned a 2nd gen RX7and as soon as he got his hands on his brotherโ€™s ride, everything changed. He had an immediate love for all things Mazda.

He too was once the proud owner of an RX7 GSL, a 1984 model that he purchased with 189,000 miles on it and a rebuilt Rotary engine. He owned the car for five years before he could finally bring himself to part with it in 2002. He finally traded it in and moved on to a Honda Civic, which until 2007 put him on the fast track to success in the car world as a sponsored driver when he made the decision to join the ARMY in order to give back to his country.

Now that he is back in civilian life, he has moved on to a more sophisticated model with the 2010 Mazdaspeed 3. He describes it as having mesmerizing torque and power, which anyone who has driven one can agree with, and loves the car for its uniqueness, handling and performance.

He has recently gotten back into the show scene and started modding it out. For more power and speed he added a CorkSport Top Mount Intercooler, Short Ram Intake and Cold Air Box, Forge V2 BPV, KMD hpfp internals, test-pipe and cat-back along with a Dynotronics Piasani ECU Street Tune with all the restrictions removed netting him a tuner estimated 345BHP and 295 lbs ft torque.

Styling on the car has also been a focus for Matt. He went with 18×7.5 Drag DR-34โ€™s, matte black wheels with a red edge stripe, and black Gorilla tuner spline drive lugs. He added DDM low beam HID headlight retrofit and red ceramic painted calipers, a CorkSport Stubby Antenna, CorkSport Mud Flap Set, and added blacked out baked headlights and tinted rear tail lights and turn signals, blacked out fog light surround rings and blacked out emblems.

As a commissioned officer in the Texas Army National Guard, Matt has had three and a half years of active duty including a one year stint in Afghanistan and in the meantime got married and had a son, but his goal, as his service in the military winds to a close, is to one day own his own speed shop in Texas.

For now you can find him back in the car show circuit with his first win coming in at the Hooters Car Show in Killeen TX 2010, or on Mazdaspeedforums.org, mazdas247.com or the rx7club.com. He is also working on starting a new Texas club and speed forum.

10,000 Miles Later – CorkSport Mazda2 Update

Our CorkSport Mazda 2 hit a milestone today and turned 10,000 miles on the odometer. It has taken us a little over a year to hit this point in the cars life which brings up some interesting points.

Our Mazda 2 has been a test vehicle for all of the Mazda 2 products we have engineered here at CorkSport. We get questions about our products asking how well they work and how they are tested. Our northwest location gives us a full range of weather conditions including snow, rain for days, and 90+ degree weather that we can test our parts in and with the company vehicles being driven daily, we get a chance to do real world testing constantly.

The CorkSport Short Ram Intake was one of the first parts we installed on the 2. So far we have put just under 9000 miles of combined road use and auto crossing on this intake with zero problems and great results.

Next came the CorkSport LED lighting kit along with the LED DRL kit. Now I wouldnโ€™t normally bring up the LED light kit as you would not expect any problems with this type of modification, but I have seen posts on forums about people who have purchased from e-bay or another vendor saying their LED lights are failing after only a few months of use.

I can confidently say you will not have any problems with the LED lights purchased from CorkSport. One added bonus with our Mazda 2 kit is the front turn signals have built in resistors so your turn signals will flash at the normal speed.

The last piece we have had on the car for the longest period of time has been the CorkSport Rear Torsion Bar. When we took the Mazda 2 out to an autocross a few weeks after purchasing the car, we discovered the 2 was really biased to under steer, so we immediatly set out to correct this and came up with our rear torsion bar. The torsion bar made the 2 more neutral in handling and I couldnโ€™t imagine driving a Mazda 2 without one now.

We are looking forward to developing and releasing some great parts for the Mazda 2 in the coming year and our customers can have confidence that any CorkSport brand part we develop has been thouroughly road tested and we have real world experience with the parts and their ability to improve the overall performance of the Mazda 2.
