Product Release! CorkSport Mazdaspeed 6 Front Sway Bar

CorkSport is pleased to announce the release of yet another Mazdaspeed 6 product, the CorkSport Mazdaspeed 6 Front Sway Bar!

The newly released Mazdaspeed 6 Front Sway Bar will improve handling by minimizing body roll during cornering and reducing understeer by strengthening the lower suspension connection across the front with a larger diameter bar that has been engineered to match the stiffness of the CorkSport Rear Sway Bar.

The Mazdaspeed 6 Front Sway Bar is made from CNC machined 28.5mm 4130 steel and provides 70% more stiffness than stock front sway bar. The powder coated black finish offers long lasting durability and performance. The included polyurethane mounting bushings eliminate the sloppy handling caused by the stock rubber bushings and offer long life and resistance to common contaminants that would destroy rubber bushings.

“The Mazdaspeed 6 can benefit greatly from the addition of a front sway bar because of the tendency the vehicle has to understeer,” said CorkSport Engineer, Brydon Foster, “We engineered our Mazdaspeed 6 Front Sway Bar with our Rear Sway Bar in mind to promote neutral handling.”

The CorkSport Mazdaspeed 6 Front Sway Bar can be purchased as a set with the CorkSport Mazdaspeed 6 Rear Sway bar for $358 or can be purchased as a standalone product to compliment your current Mazdaspeed 6 suspension set-up for $199.

Featured Car of the Month – Christian’s Speed 3

This month’s winner for our blog segment, The CorkSport Featured Car of the Month, goes to Christian who’s 2011 Mazdaspeed 3 plays the looks and the part for the role!

This Tustin, CA resident was featured in the CorkSport booth at Mazfest 2011 and with good reason. He sports a CorkSport Front Mount Intercooler, CorkSport Downpipe, CorkSport Racepipe, and CorkSport Power Series Exhaust on his Mazdaspeed.

But the mods don’t stop there, in addition to his CS go fast parts, he has also added a COBB xle bpv, upgraded his fuel pump internals and motor mounts and added a short shifter kit, CorkSport Skid Plate, and COBB AP.

For improved handling Christian has added HKS Hypermax Coilovers, Auto EXE front, rear, and bottom strut bars and BBS Wheels. To help him stop his speedy ride he has also added CorkSport Stainless Brake Lines and Stop Tech Slotted Rotors.

Ever since Christian learned how to build his first engine, he was hooked, but this is the first Mazda he has ever owned. He knew immediately that it was the perfect ride for him, “It is lightweight, powerful, and has superb handling” said Christian, “All I have to say is I love my Mazda.”

What’s next on the list for this Mazda lover? An Act Lightweight Flywheel and Clutch, CorkSport Front Camber Plates and CorkSport Oil Catch Can.

I think I can speak for your Mazda Christian when I say; your Mazda loves you too.

Product Release! CorkSport Mazdaspeed 6 FMIC for SRI

Many of our Mazdaspeed 6 customers have been eagerly awaiting this announcement and today CorkSport would like to end the wait and announce the newest addition to our Front Mount Intercooler line with the CorkSport Front Mount Intercooler Kit for Short Ram Intake designed specifically for the Mazdaspeed 6!

Mazdaspeed 6 Front Mount Intercooler kit for an SRI

Designed to replace the restrictive top-mount intercooler, the CorkSport front-mounted kit has been developed for optimal placement in the path of the inflow ambient air, allowing for maximized heat dissipation and reduced heat soak, a common problem associated with the stock top-mounted intercooler location.

The kit features a 21x10x3” bar and plate intercooler core, mandrel bent and TIG welded polished aluminum intercooler piping and custom-reinforced silicone connectors made from multi-layer nylon braid to provide strength and a smooth internal transition for less turbulent airflow. The kit includes stainless steel T-bolt clamps to ensure an airtight seal all of the needed installation hardware and detailed installation instructions.

Front Mount Intercooler Product for 2006-2007 Mazdaspeed 6

During extensive testing, the CorkSport Mazdaspeed 6 Front Mount Intercooler showed an average pressure drop of 1.5-2 psi and a 10 to 1 temperature drop, meaning for every ten degrees of inlet temperature, the outlet temperature of the intercooler only goes up one degree.

The kit has been designed to integrate seamlessly with our popular CorkSport Stage II Power Series Short Ram Intake and can be purchased as a standalone kit to compliment your current short ram intake or can be purchased with the CorkSport Power Series Short Ram Intake for additional savings and power gains.

Product Release! CorkSport Mazdaspeed 3 Front Camber Kit

I’m proud to announce the release of the CorkSport Mazdaspeed 3 Front Camber Kit, our deepest customer collaboration effort to date!

It all began over a year ago with a product submission from Todd Friar, a well-respected member of the Mazdaspeed3 community that you can often find contributing on the forums as Todd98se.

Based on his submission we began exploring manufacturability when we received a second product idea submission from Eric Poyer on 5/03/2011 that helped to confirm the viability of this product. With a second customer willing to participate in the development process we felt confident we could design a part that would be a sales success.

We collected their input on important features and target price and after a few weeks, we presented drawings to Eric and Todd for their consideration.

With their feedback in hand, we developed sample sets for test fitment.

We confirmed successful installation in our shop then got a sample sent out to Todd for further feedback. He even wrote up a fantastic installation process post on the Mazdaspeed forums.

Our initial design required cutting the strut tower, something we were well used to seeing having been in this business for so long. Eric however, was resistant to the idea of cutting his strut tower, something we then realized may be an issue for other customers as well, and a detail we may have missed had it not been for his involvement in the development process.

We knew we had to go back to the drawing board to remove the requirement to cut the strut tower and we also knew we needed to reassure people that cutting the strut tower would not compromise the integrity of the vehicle.

Using Solidworks, we did some force analysis testing that backed up what we already knew from experience and provided the data needed to show that it is possible to safely remove some material from the strut towers.

We also redesigned the camber plates to allow for installation without cutting the strut tower by recessing the bolts.

Other features we incorporated into the production version from Todd’s feedback are larger M10 studs which reduce camber variation during removal and reinstallation and longer studs to allow for improved fitment with strut tower bars.

The final product is a front camber kit that provides up to -3 degrees of negative camber with aftermarket coilovers and can be installed without any permanent modifications. Proper cutting of the strut tower allows for easy access camber tuning to dial in performance handling on and off the track.

Solid pillow ball bearings and housing reduce unwanted upper strut mount deflection and improve handling during racing and high performance driving.

Our camber kit can be used with aftermarket lowering springs and OEM springs for reduced upper strut mount deflection, however, negative camber is limited to 1.5 degrees due to spring interference. We will be revising the CorkSport lowering springs to allow for a wider range of camber adjustment and expect them to be out later in 2012.

Our knowledgebase is a repository for all sorts of information. For the camber plate development process, the interested reader can view each article we wrote during the development process for more details.

Todd and Eric were fantastic during the development process. This was one of the most work intensive products we have released to-date and we could not have done it without them! The CorkSport Mazdaspeed 3 Front Camber Kit is available for purchase from CorkSport.com for $359.00
