Coming Soon: The New Turbo Inlet Pipe – Mazda SkyActiv-G 2.5L

The Design Logic

If you are a car enthusiast, own a new Mazda utilizing the awesome SkyActiv-G Turbo Engine, and have been searching the internet for performance parts then you probably know that CorkSport has been deep in development for this new Mazda platform.  Specifically, CorkSport has been working on the last piece of the intake system puzzle, the Turbo Inlet Pipe.

This is the black plastic “tube/pipe” that connects the Short Ram Intake System to the turbocharger inlet.  While the SRI System adds some great turbo noises and power gains to the Sky-Activ Turbo, there is still more opportunity for additional performance and sound improvements.  This is where the new CorkSport Turbo Inlet Pipe steps in.

2019+ Mazda 3 & 2020+ CX30 – License Plate Relocation Kit is here!

Mazda3 License Plate Kit

If you’re looking for a quick and easy mod to boost the appearance of your 4th Gen Mazda 3 and CX-30, the new CorkSport License Plate Relocation Kit is a great place to look. The factory front license plate location is front and center which detracts from the aggressive front grill of the 4th Gen Mazda 3. The CS relocation kit moves the front license plate out of the center of the grill and over to the side for an overall better look. A comparison between the factory and CS license plate locations can be seen below. The CS relocation kit is also super simple to install and takes only 15-30 minutes to complete. Read on for a detailed look at the components included in the Mazda 3 License Plate Relocation Kit.

First let’s take a look at the tow hook screw that is used to hold the license plate bracket. The tow hook screw is made out of high strength steel and zinc coated so that it will hold up in all types of environments. The tow hook screw also utilizes the factory mounting location to avoid any permanent modifications to the front end of your Mazda. Now onto the main component of the CS kit which is the license plate bracket. Starting out as an 11 gauge 304 stainless steel sheet the bracket is bent to provide quick access to the main mounting bolt and to also flow better with the lines of your front bumper. The license plate bracket includes a quick detach feature so if you ever need to run through a car wash you can quickly loosen the bolt with the provided low profile 19mm wrench and lift it up and off.

We have also positioned the license plate bracket out of the view of the parking sensors so everything continues to work as it should. Finally, all of the hardware included in the kit is stainless steel and we provide tamper resistant screws to hold on your license plate so it’s more difficult if anyone tried to remove it.

Thanks for checking out the CorkSport License Plate Relocation Kit for the 4th Gen Mazda 3 & CX-30! Be sure to head over to the product page and scoop one of these up if you want an appearance boost for the front of your Mazda.

Mazdaspeed 3 Lowering Springs – V2.0

Speed3 Lowering Springs

CorkSport is proud to announce the new and improved Version 2.0 Lowering Springs for the 2007 – 2013 Mazdaspeed 3.  While the changes are subtle, it never hurts to go back and refine a product that is so well loved by the community

When designing performance lowering springs we want to find the right balance in performance, comfort, and style.  When done right performance springs can make a huge improvement in the vehicle’s overall driving experience.  That is our goal at CorkSport HQ.

The CorkSport V2.0 springs are very similar to the V1.0 with a ride height drop of approximately 1.1” front and 1.2” rear.  This is a fairly aggressive drop, but does cooperate with the stock struts after a bit of bump stop trimming.  That is all clearly laid out step-by-step in the included installation instructions.

Now ride height isn’t everything.  While it looks great, it also needs to perform great.  The CorkSport Sport Springs have specific spring rates so that they perform and feel great for the spirited and daily driven Mazdaspeed 3.

Up front the spring rate is a linear 3.5K and the rear is a linear 4.5K.   We specifically design the springs with a higher rear spring rate to help the vehicle understeer vs oversteer characteristics and maintain a proper suspension frequency so your Speed feel solid and planted through the curves and over road imperfections.

Overall, the car is going to feel more lively and connected to the road, giving you more feedback and control to enjoy your Mazdaspeed 3.

You probably also notice a new color!  Yes, our new V2.0 are now blue via a durable and corrosion resistant powder coat finish.

RX-Vision GT3

Widebody GT3 Rx Vision racecar goodness

I haven’t written any blogs in a while as there hasn’t honestly been anything from Mazda, which has made me stop and go WOW. Most people who have interactions with me would have thought I would be interested in the Mazda 3 TCR. The TCR car looks great, but when I learned Mazda went with the “Spec” engine for the series, it became a “meh” for me. Having an engine that is based on more or less a VW power plant pulling a Mazda around the track made it a lot less interesting. I do know why Mazda chose to go that path, but that is another story.

The next possibe rotary
Mazda Rotary GT3 Concept Car

What did make me go WOW recently was at the Grand Turismo Championships when Mazda announced the RX-Vision GT3 concept! Mazda loves a sexy race car, and if you look at the past two, they have both come out of the Mazda North American studios. This concept is no exception as Julien Montousse, the design chief for Mazda North America, was present during the announcement of the car.

The Mazda Rotary Rx-Vision GT3 Racecar

This is a big deal in my mind, we have just seen a change at Mazda USA with Nelson Cosgrove now appointed as the new director of Mazda Motorsports. Mazda has done everything except come right out and say we are going to build another rotary, and that message looks to be getting stronger. We have seen more patents popping up, calling out more tech and drawings of rotary goodness, including my favorite the top-mounted turbo rotary engine from years back.

Like anything Mazda teases us with, we will have to wait and see what happens. On a personal level, I hope Mazda gets us a 2020 Mazda 3 AWD turbo MT, but that is another one of those “wait and see” dreams from Mazda.

Increase horsepower in your 2019+ Mazda 3 with the easy to install Intake
CS Short Ram Intake

We’ll admit this intake has been a bit of a challenge since Mazda has switched to a new style of MAF sensor that is very sensitive to changing the intake. We’re happy to report that we’ve figured everything out and have had 5 Mazda 3 cars successfully testing the short ram intake for hundreds of miles with no issues. Now, onto the fun stuff!

Let’s jump right into the fun stuff: power! By removing the restrictive factory intake and filter, and replacing them with the CorkSport SRI, we were able to pick up 5-7WHP and 5-7WTQ when tested back to back on our dyno. This was tested within an hour or so of each other, with no tuning changes, and with the only change being the intake swap. Check out the dynograph down below! For both intakes, the only other mod on the test car was a prototype CS axle back exhaust (coming soon!). This will not affect power gain from the intake as it was installed for both tests.

Power is not the only benefit though. The CS short ram intake offers a great visual boost to your engine bay. You can even personalize your intake as you can select between red, blue, and black silicone and filter as well as polished or black clamps. Appearance is not even the best part-the CorkSport Mazda 3 Short Ram Intake adds some much-needed growl to the engine to give some more excitement when you get on the gas. It’s not obnoxious, but noticeable and definitely enjoyable.

To make the power and great noise, each component in the CS SRI has been optimized for performance. Starting at the filter, an AEM Dry-Flow is used for fantastic airflow capacity without compromising filtration. A non-oiled filter is used specifically to prevent issues with the MAF sensor.

Next comes the billet MAF housing. We use a precision machined MAF sensor housing to ensure the diameter of the intake near the MAF sensor is an exact match to the OEM diameter. This keeps fuel trims in check and keeps the check engine light off. A billet MAF housing has the added benefit of looking great, especially when finished off with an attractive laser-etched logo.

We have 3 color options available for the 2019+ Mazda 3 intake

The MAF housing connects to the throttle body with a custom-designed and reinforced silicone coupler. It is a perfect fit with the OEM throttle body and valve cover vent hose while the four layers of nylon braiding keep the silicone strong for years to come. This piece of silicone has the added benefit of being completely smooth on the inside versus the accordion OEM rubber piece. This helps promote flow into your engine.

Finally, all of the components are tied together with stainless steel T-bolt clamps. These clamps offer superior sealing characteristics over a traditional worm gear clamp and are not prone to stripping like a worm gear clamp.
