What is an accessport?

The Cobb Tuning Accessport is a device that communicates with your ECU (Engine Control Unit). When you own an accessport you will be able to read error codes, modify engine settings, and take informational logs of data to keep your Mazda running reliably, and to give it more power.

The main reason people purchase the accessport is to install maps on their car.

What is a map?

A map is a preconfigured group of settings or parameters for your car. Want your Mazdaspeed to get better gas mileage? Run the “Economy Mode Map.” Want your Mazdaspeed to run faster? Remove the boost limits in 1st and 2nd gear, then run a “Stage 1 Map.”

Maps also allow you to tell your ECU specifically what power modifications you have done and how you want them running. If you have a new downpipe that flows better and Max Flow Fuel Pump Internals, then your ECU will need a new map installed that tells it how to control the boost levels by controlling the waste gate, the spark advance, ideal fuel pressure, fuel trims, and many other things.

So where do I get these maps?

The Cobb Accessport will come pre-installed with a few maps that are known as OTS (Off-The-Shelf) Maps. They are basic maps that should cover a wide variety of parts. Though they are more beneficial than keeping a stock ECU tune, they are nowhere near as beneficial as doing a custom tune. Custom tunes can be done by anyone with Accesstuner Pro who is willing to devote time to learning the ins and outs of engine control management. Most people who don’t want to spend hours tweaking small variables to meet safe and powerful conditions choose to get a tune done by a professional.

For the Mazdaspeed platform there are many tuners to choose from:

How do I use this thing?

The accessport is really rather simple. If you can use a modern smartphone, you can figure out the accessport.

  • Step 1: Find the OBD II port on your Mazdaspeed 3 (located on the left side of the dash above the hood lever, below the traction control switches.) and then plug the accessport cable in.
  • Step 2: Tell it to install. Make sure you follow all directions on the screen and don’t shut your car off halfway through install.

Once installed to your car the accessport will not be able to be installed in any other vehicle unless you uninstall it. This is called by many “marrying “ the accessport. You can only install an “unmarried” accessport to your car. If it’s already “married” it will not work, which is why buying one used can be so sketchy.

Now that it’s installed, you can change maps, do datalogs, and view check engine lights right from inside your car. When it isn’t installed, you can easily connect it to your computer and load the accessport manager to copy new maps to the device, or open datalogs in Excel. You can eve use tools such as Virtual Dyno to monitor performance gains.

Once you have installed the accessport and decided on the map to use there is only one thing left to do: Drive. Get out there and enjoy your car with its new power curve, removed boost limits, and better breathing. If you thought your car was fun before, just wait until you get an OTS map installed with your accessport and put the pedal down for the first time!

Once you’ve done that and realize how amazing it is, I dare you to get a custom tune for your specific car, modifications, gas, elevation, and driving habits. You will be BLOWN away.

Overall, the accessport is an amazing device that every Mazdaspeed owner should have for safety, reliability, power, and to learn more about your car. Let us know if you have any questions about them, or purchase one here.

  1. Hey, do you know of anybody that sells the v2 accessport I know they aren’t as new but they are cheaper and that is a better option for me right now. I just need one that I can make sure installs before I give them any money and eBay just isn’t going to work for me.
    Thanks!
    Ben

  2. I am right there with you on the price, i dont have money to do what i want with my car, but i would really recommend waiting and saving a litle at a time to get the v3. I just got my v3 from corksport.com and it is amazing. worth the wait to get the better ap.

  3. I am thinking of keeping my mine stock possibly for some time.. should i still get an accessport if its completely stock ?

  4. Even with a stock car you can make improvements with the ECU Mapping to have the car make more power and improve drivability.

  5. My gen2 MS3 has a Corksport Cold air intake, Bypass valve and turbo inlet pipe, if i want to get the accessport, do i have to upgrade the fuel pump internals or can i just buy and install the Accessport and use OTS maps without any hassle?

    Thanks in advance!

  6. The fuel pump internals are very necessary. When you have any other upgrades done to the car, the stock internals are awful. Very high chance that if ou continue to mod on stock internals that you could cease the engine for good. As far as mods go, your intake should be fine. Just don’t upgrade to any larger that a 3″ intake on a stock tune. Your MAF sensor gets confused with the over abundance of air, and your car could potentially not turn back on because the idle will be at such a low RPM.

  7. Hey guys, currently have corksport intake and tip, turbo smart bov/bpv. I want to follow the path of corksport. Would the accessport be compatible with corksport parts? Such at the turbo back exhuast and hpfp? And help would be greatly appreciated

  8. I’m hitting normal boost at 15 psi running the stage 1 Ots map with the sf intake but I was wondering if I can safely overboost the wgdc by a small amount and possibly get to 16.5 psi and maybe make a bit more power, and if so how do I do that, i have the cobb ap v3

  9. Recenlty bought a cobb short ram intake, turbo inlet tube and boost control solenoid for my 06 ms6. Cobbs website says I can run these with my stock ECU…whadda you think?

  10. The stock ECU can handle it with a tune done. You would need to have the tune to control the different boost control solenoid.

  11. Do I need to do a tune if all I have is the SRI and TIP or either or? I need to start small cost wise in order to get the wife to accept my new found hobby. “I have a lot of hobbies” my speed being my favorite ha.

  12. We have found with just the intake you should be ok. A tune gets you more from your speed and the upgraded pump internals allow you more flexibility down the road for other upgrades.

  13. I have the stage 1 corksport intake and turbo inlet hose from corksport can I run an off the shelf map on the accesport v3 ?? Email me instead

  14. I wanna get the Cobb ap and run a stage 1. I have a speed Daddy catback exhaust, UR test pipe, CS air intake and forge bov. Will it run smoothly with those mods or should I invest in something else to help the power gain?

  15. With the mods you have you are going to need to get the pump internals and the AP right away.

  16. I’ve got a stock 2013 Speed3. I’d like to get an Accessport v3. Are there performance improving maps I can safely use without make any other modifications? Or do you recommend a base level of enhancements?

    Thanks!

  22. Hey if I have Simons cat back system and a SRI intake on a Mazdaspeed 3 (2008) everything else is stock. Will the car run safely and smooth or do I need to get a accesport?

  23. You most definitely can install the map onto the car, and then unplug the AP. The same map will stay on the car as long as you have it installed onto the ECU.

  24. Im new to the Speed world i got a gen 2 with cobb full turbo back exhaust and cobb SRI intake. Can I run safely for the meantime until i buy an AP ?

  25. Hey there I got a Mazdaspeed 6 with a BOV and a cold air intake
I’m interested in installing the HPFP internals. But my question is will I need the Cobb acessport with it?

  26. Just ordered my AP v3! Only mod I have on my car is a Cobb SF intake (installed for the past 300 miles) runs great still. I’m just wondering which map to use and be as safe as possible until I get HPFP. Stage 1+ sf intake or the safe mode + sf intake? Thanks a lot

  27. Just bought a used 2010 with 150 km’s on it ( Canada ).
Suspicious it may have already been tuned as there is a
stick on type mount on the dash….. we will see. Going to grab an AccessPort soon and I may go diabolical with this car as I got it super cheap…. Should we go 400 + hp
    range…maybe. Keep you all posted!!

  28. Does the Cobb V3 come with the ability to Turn off SWAS and the torque limiter in 1st and 2nd gear, or does that software cost extra.
