Derrick Shares his Thoughts on the New MazdaSpeed 3

There have been lots of pictures and postings on the internet about the new Mazdaspeed 3, Mazdaspeed Axela, or MPS3 (depending on your location on the planet).

After the first few looks at the car I thought that the front end looked a little off with the ‘happy face’ Mazda came up with.  However, after looking at the car overall, the style and design has grown on me.  With the new body styling, wheels, and stance I think I like the upcoming car more than the older Mazdaspeed 3.

Several things which really stand out to me in the new car are the lower body line which comes up and over the rear wheel well.  From a front view this integrates really well with the styling of the car.  I am really digging the new headlights and taillights as well.  The evolution of the car was a good one.

2010 MazdaSpeed 3

I really want to get a good look under the hood to see the changes to the intercooler and intake system.  So far I have not found any good pictures of the engine bay.  I will probably have to wait a few more months or until we receive our special-ordered MazdaSpeed 3.  With the hood scoop in the new location the CorkSport Ram Air FMIC kit we sell should really make some impressive power gains at speed.

CorkSport goes to the OCC Mazda Meet in NY!

CORKSPORT attended the OCC Mazda meet on May 2nd and 3rd in Newburgh NY. The event had a wide range of Mazdas, everything from from a 1972 RX-2 in pristine condition to a brand new 2010 Mazda 3.

Jason and I attended the show to answer product questions and to show off our latest products like the Power Series Short Ram Intake (SRI).

We met people from all areas of the Northeast including a group from Club Mazda Quebec who drove down for the OCC event. They came with a full range of Mazdas including this BJ model protégé with a Sport 20 bumper purchased from us here at CorkSport.

MazdaSpeed 3s where out in force at the event. There was everything from stock to heavily modified cars present including this tasteful MazdaSpeed 3 which I especially liked the looks of.

That’s all for this time, be sure to say hello to CorkSport representatives at upcoming Mazda events this year!

Sneak Peak: CorkSport SRI Air Box

Hey everyone!

Just a quick update as to what we’ve been working on our here at the shop.

I built an air box for our short ram intake for you MazdaSpeed 6 and the MazdaSpeed 3 guys. I built it as a full box but with a removable top so the air filter can be easily removed for cleaning. The use of the air box will help keep hot engine bay temperatures from entering your intake system. In my preliminary testing, a 2 to 4 degree drop in intake air temperature at cruising speeds was measured with the air box installed versus not being installed. Hope that those of you that end up purchasing it, enjoy it!

Here are a couple of pictures of what it looks like installed in a MazdaSpeed 6:

And here is a couple shots of what it looks like in a MazdaSpeed 3:

That’s all for now, tune in next time for more updates from the shop!
