Representing CorkSport Mazda Performance.

Since starting here at CorkSport HQ, I find myself searching the lanes of traffic for Mazdas. I can’t deny that it gets my heart pumping a little bit when I see a Speed3, but that’s merely because I have a preference for them and the “zoom-zoom” effect.

What keeps me looking is that I don’t always see Mazdas of what I’ll call the “proper persuasion”. It may just be a Pacific Northwest thing, but there are a lot of sexy performance cars roaming the streets disguised as family vehicles. Now don’t get me wrong, a family car is always necessary, but after seeing what the enthusiasts are capable of, I get a little disappointed when I don’t see a CorkSport branded vehicle behind every Mazda emblem.

Over Labor Day weekend I was driving home from camping and having a conversation with a fellow car enthusiast (he’s into Mitsubishis, yuck) about how often we see cars “repping” their favorite performance brand. He was actually doing a great job of making me defensive, saying that he’d never seen a good looking performance Mazda. He said it was a rare occurrence out here to see a clean/stance one and then for it to also be repping CorkSport, “like seeking unicorn’s”. I was disagreeing with all that I had, and yes I mean that in reference to volume control.

We were in a deep, what I’ll refer to as an, “elevated and passionate” conversation, when low and behold, there in the lane just left of us, was a tiny 6” decal on the back right of a very clean Speed3 (Gen2). A perfectly pitched screech of “TOLD YOU SO” bellowed from my mouth, followed by a quick cell phone pic and a good long laugh at how “I (Kim) am always right, get used to it.”

Since then, we have found and rewarded the owner of this beautiful beast https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151905810739257&set=a.317272679256.181853.126409094256&type=1&theater, but it got a great conversation going in the office of “where is the best spot to place a decal?”

So, this is the question I pose to you, our readers: “Where do you think is the perfect spot to rep your favorite performance brand?” I prefer them to go along with the elegant lines of the car, but others say that having them stand against those brings a slick look as well. What do you think?

CorkSport in the Blood!!!

It’s a passion of mine….import cars. To sum it up in a simple write-up or blog post is literally impossible. There are very few things in life that strike me the way import cars have. I have had my fleeting moments with various hobbies and some of them have stayed with me through the years while others have passed quietly by the wayside. Passion is what drives anyone to do what they do with fervor….this is my #1 reason for enjoying being a CS driver.
Art. You may say to yourself; “Art? Why would art have anything to do with this?” Easy! Art is in everything, but many do not see it nor realize it. Art is in the way we see the aesthetic aspects as good or horrible. Art is the way we drive our vehicles, a style if you will. Art is also in manufacturing and quality or such. Art in my instance is from birth and has played a major role in how I see the world and how I see what fits, and what doesn’t, this has given me the skills I have today and the future ones that I will continue to hone and learn.
Love of the sport. Same as “love of the game” for an athlete. Being a sponsored driver is much like being a sponsored athlete. How you handle yourself and your car not only reflects on you but the sponsor and all prospective customers and fans past, present and future. Loving what you do and caring about those who give you their helping hand to do it is a very important part of being an enthusiast and standing apart from the paper tigers of this ball we all spin on.
Dedication with reward. By this I mean, I am dedicated, sponsored or not when I find a company who not only cares about the customer, but cares as much for quality and dynamic release of great products I am excited and feel like a kid with a lollypop! Dedication is not only my goal and the key to success the company you work for, are sponsored by or just plain buy your products from must have a positive attitude to the sport, art, love and dedication aspects of it all. Without dedication we are mere lemmings marching to our cliffs.
The best part of being a CorkSport sponsored driver is the fact that my pride in what I do to my car is rewarded with the pride of CorkSport by taking the time to see me out here in the ocean of other drivers and see that I am dedicated to the sport, and always striving to do better and achieve higher standards with my vehicle. CorkSport September Featured Car of the Month: Brandon Graser

Brandon found himself looking for a new car, and in the price range that he had at the time, he test drove quite a few. He was hooked on the fact that the Speed 3 was the “best bang for your buck and the most fun to drive”. He enjoyed the overall look, style, a feel of the car; “this one” was the one to get.

Every car he had ever modded started with an intake and since “CorkSport was right here in town, just a couple miles away” it seemed like the most realistic option for him to check out what we had to offer. He can’t quite recall whether or not he purchased the CORKSPORT Stage II Power Series Short Ram Intake for Mazdaspeed 3 by itself or if he walked away with a lot more that day after talking with Austin. (Our records show he definitely did: CORKSPORT 2010+ Mazdaspeed 3 Cat Back Exhaust, CORKSPORT Urethane Exhaust Hangers, CORKSPORT Mazdaspeed 3 Downpipe).

AMO, (Awesome Mazda the Original) as his one of his lady friends has christened it, is something that he’s pretty proud of. “I’ve done most of the work myself with the help of some friends, and all of it with very little previous DIY experience.”

When asked what his “favorite” mod was thus far, he said, “The most significant difference in the car is how it sounds now, after the cat-back exhaust and the downpipe were put in.” CORKSPORT 2010+ Mazdaspeed 3 Cat Back Exhaust, CORKSPORT Mazdaspeed 3 Downpipe.

Next on the list for upgrades will be some lowering springs or coil overs. “The car pretty much looks stock at this point. You can’t tell how much work has really been put into it, because I’ve left the styling alone except for the eyelids and array of stickers of course. Brandon doesn’t find himself alone in the car that often. Remo, his full breed miniature long haired dachshund, is normally right there in the shotgun seat being a perfect copilot. “He’s an old quirky little guy, but always up for a drive.” You can find Brandon and Remo around the Vancouver, WA area, headed to and from work or taking the occasional drive out to Sunset Falls. “It’s in the middle of nowhere, with zero traffic, lots of twists and turns and of course the privacy to drive a ‘bit’ faster.”

The Best Friends of CorkSport

“Porter”

Porter is Kim’s favorite lap dog. He is a 7 year old English Mastiff that weighs only 175lbs!!! He loves hiking, cuddling and drooling wherever he wants.

“Mosby”

Spencer is very fond of his fish Mosby. He is a Betta, his favorite color is atomic tangerine, he enjoys playing rock’em sock’em robots and his favorite food is Jello-O.

“Duke”

Dustin has an amazing cat named Duke that never met a box or bag that he didn’t love. You will often find Dustin’s children carrying Duke around in a bag while he still sleeps soundly inside.

“Jemma”

Jemma is an 11 year old Springer Spaniel whose one goal in life is to get you to throw her a pine cone. Quite extraordinary Jen (her owner) once got Jemma to hold 11 pine cones in her mouth at the same time!!!

Cows and “Momma”

Roe’s pets are spoiled rotten… at least for a little while. They don’t have names except for Momma, otherwise they might be called “Dinner1”, “Dinner2”, etc. They do not get to come inside but they are still very well behaved.

Matt

Matt has 9 tarantulas spanning 8 difference species from 4 different continents around the world. He handles all but two of them (who can have very painful or paralyzing bites). Pictured are his Mexican red knee and his very dangerous Red Slate Ornamental.

“Duke”

Casey was very excited to bring Duke home. He’s only 3 months old but has already decided that rubbing you with a dirty soccer ball until you play with him is his favorite sport.

“Cheetah” and “Cheli”

Cheetah and Cheli are Kelly’s two favorite pals. They love everyone and Cheli even lets the kids ride him! As you can tell from the picture, they are always down to go for a ride themselves!

“Buster”, “Odie” and “Frankie”

Joel and his family are crazy enough to have 3 dogs! Buster is the old man who acts like a puppy, Odie is always in everyone’s business and Frankie won’t leave your side if you even brush up against them. Joel likes to joke that they would go home with the UPS man if he let them.
