I am writing this exciting blog because the Mazda SkyActiv-G is getting some CorkSport TURBO LOVE.
Quick note, this kit is releasing in April 2022, take a look at the several videos #1 #2 #3 we have posted up on the kit.
Since 2013 and the loss of the Mazdaspeed 3, Mazda has really left a lot to be desired as far as power goes for its line-up. Donโt get me wrong, we love Mazda here at CorkSport; the interiors and exteriors are on point, they get great gas mileage, and are exciting to drive. We will always continue pushing and developing the platform that Mazda is kicking out, but letโs be realโฆwe love power too much to let this one slide.
Our Decision Process
Iโll admit, we thought long and hard about moving forward with such a large turbo kit for the Mazda 3 and 6. We hoped, we wished, and we dreamed that Mazda would eventually wise up and kick out a GEN3 Mazdaspeed, and we got really excited when we heard about the CX-9 Turbocharged 2.5L engine. Unfortunately, Mazda chose not to go down that path. Once we found out for sure, we decided it was time to pull the trigger on the GEN3 Mazda 3 & 6 Turbo Kit.
Moving forward on a project of this size was not a trivial decision. There were many aspects to consider:
- Do we make a complete kit or just design and manufacture difficult components?
- What is the right power level to shoot for?
- How will the engine and drivetrain hold up to the increased stress of forced induction?
- How do we properly tune the engine?
These are all important aspects we had to consider.
The Choices We Made
The most difficult and time-intensive aspect of the kit is designing the physical components that will make up the kitโฆ the entire kit. And yes, we decided that a 100% complete kit was the only way to make this a great setup, so that exactly what we intend to provide.
A complete kit needs to include everything from the air filter to the downpipe, and everything in-between. This includes the intake system, turbocharger, intercooler piping, intercooler, exhaust manifold, downpipe, and all the necessary silicone couplers, hardware, and wiring extensions.
This will be the most complete turbo kit you can purchase for the 2.5L SkyActiv-G powertrain.
Right behind developing all the components for the kit comes the tuning. We are working with Versatune to develop the software to control the 2.5L Sky-G engine with forced induction. This portion of the project will be kicked into high gear in the near future once all functional prototypes are on our test car and strapped to the dyno.
The Things We Don’t Know
We’ve got a long way to go with this project, and there are still some uncertainties we will have to address when we get there. We will need to find out if the engine can take the added power, and how much until it goes zoom-zoom-boom!
Time will tell on these questions, but we do have some stuff in the works that will help. While I’m just spit-balling here, something around 280-300whp would be a lot of fun in the Mazda 3 and Mazda 6. Make sure to stay tuned as this project evolves through testing and development in the coming months. I have only skimmed the surface of this project and I could easily write pages and pages if time allowed.
What are your thoughts on this new project? Questions? Leave them in the comments section, we would love to hear from you.

The test car was at Portland Intl Raceway for some heavy load testing this past month. It is going forward.
Great! I can’t wait! Will you post a new blog once it is ready for the customers?
We will
So, it seems like this is actually happening and it is wonderful news! Would be great to see details coming out as things solidify.
It really is happening.
I have been waiting way too long for this kit! Please keep us posted! Do you have an estimated price range?
I know you’re probably making this exclusive for the 2.5L, but you guys should really consider throwing together one for the 2.0L.
I’d give you my first born child and all my worldly possessions for a 2.0L turbo
I agree with Luke Sand. There are tons of us hoping you make the 2.0L Turbo. I would drop a gear and disappear with a turbo.
Will it fit the new 2019 mazda 3?
After we release the kit for the 14-18 models we will be looking at the 19+ models.
Is it likely we will see the kit released before summer 2020?
Any updates as of January 2020 and how close we are to this being a reality?
We have multiple cars testing the kit currently.
I hereby volunteer as a tester ๐
We have kits out being tested currently ๐
Will the tuning solution be a remote tuning kit with “pre-programmed” tunes? Also, with the high compression of these motors, how mush additional boost can these engines take? Any idea on rough HP/TQ values (worst case)?
To extend my other comment, will this kit be available for a specific transmission (auto vs manual)? I believe on your NA 2.5L race header blog post, an issue with clearance between transmission types was brought up. Will that be a concern here?
Extremely interested. Last posts were in 2017… is still in R&D or did the project get scrapped?
We have several test mules racking up miles of testing. It is going forward.
I hope you guys make the turbo kits for everyone, both Manuals & Automatic Transmissions! Mazda fam will have so much fun. How many months until you guys finish testing and take orders for the turbo kit??
Glad to hear you guys are making progress. Really would like to add some power to my 6.
Super excited, had my 2016 out for a good rip in the switchbacks around my home with a buddy, I think I made him poop his pants, so excited for a turbo boost, that ride will be kicked up to awesome level. Any potential dates of going retail?? Available in Canada??
We ship out are parts planet wide so Canada is not a problem. The kits are in track and street testing currently.
you people need to stop putting pressure on them. let the engineering take its pace.
I used to be not excited given that I lived in California and a CARB legal turbo was close to improbable, but now that I’m living in Portland with just a OBD2 test and no visual, I’m ecstatic for this product. Can’t wait for the release…
Any further development, and or release date on the kit?
We have 2 cars testing the kit currently. It is getting closer but we do not have a date yet.
Is this still happening? Iโm very interested in adding this to my car!
Are you guys going to make one for the 2.0L ?
Yes, the kits are in testing and doing great.
After the 2.5 is released the plan will be to get the 2.0 going.
any updates on release?
Do you have an estimated price?
this is truly exciting, doing some exciting building now, turbo kit will be a sweet add, any thought on pricing when it is available
Any word on the turbo??? Ever since I bought my 2018 Mazda 3, Iโve been looking to you guys over the past 3 years in hopes that youโll release a 2.5G turbo kit?
I can not wait for this to finally be ready to purchase, I love my 2016 Mazda 6 and the idea of extra horsepower is exciting.
I’m so excited that I found this post, I LOVE the look of my 2015 Mazda 6, but I am SO disappointed in Mazda for lack of power. I was considering getting rid of it, but now that I saw this article, I have hope that my Mazda 6 will kick some ass. I’ll watch for updates, I’m hoping that this comes soon as it’s been 3 years.
Is there any news on this turbo kit for the 2.5 skyactiv in the 3rd Gen mazda 3?
Will the turbo kit fit for 2.5 manual?
Would this kit be available for Automatic transmissions as well?
We all desperately need the 2.0 turbo
Does the developpement continue ? 3 years since this post. The are plenty people want this kit.
Any updates on the turbo kit bc i neeeeeed the speed i got the money ready too !!!
I HAVE NOTHING TO DO, I AM ISOLATED AT HOME AND HAVE MONEY. PLEASE SELL ME A TURBO KIT BEFORE I LOSE MY MIND!
Just kidding, take your time and test it right. I trust you guys.

This is great. Good work pros. We all are waiting….
It has been a tough road honestly.
It has been continuous work on the kit. There is a street car doing testing now as well as a track car.
Yes
Is there talk about doing a turbo kit for the second generation Mazda 3 with the 2.5L?
Not at this time, unfortunately.
