Project MazdaSpeed 3

first Mazdaspeed 3 delivered in Washington state

We were so excited about this car that we didn't even wait for it to arrive at the dealership. We went up to the Port of Tacoma and took possession of it right there at the dock. It's too early to give away all our secrets about the new 2010 MazdaSpeed 3, but let's just say that the consensus is: "It Rocks!" (Read more...)

Motor Mount Inserts

8/15/2009

One of the first things we noticed with the 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 is that there is some extra movement in the drivetrain. With so much torque on tap with your right foot the stock mounts need some help. We installed a set of the CorkSport urethane motor mount inserts. The change in the way the drives was noticeable the first time you let out the clutch to drive. The mount inserts give the car a crisp feel under acceleration. For a 30 minute install this is one of the best modifications you can do to any Mazdaspeed 3.

CorkSport Power Series Short Ram Intake

9/18/2009

The best Mazdaspeed 3 SRi on the market

The next item we looked at was the intake system. We liked the performance of our previous generation SRI intake system so we looked at upgrading it to work with the 2010 Mazdaspeed 3. After some engineering work and dyno time we can up with the outstanding product that looks great and functions even better. Peak power gains from the intake are 35 wheel hp and 33 ft/lbs of torque. You can view the blog post with the dyno results to see the dyno sheet. Installation of the intake made a huge improvement in the Mazdaspeed 3 driving. The power comes on faster than before and you can really feel the car pull harder to the redline. A link to the intake on our store is here.

J-Spec LED Tail Lights

Mazdaspeed 3 Japanese LED tail lights

One thing I really liked about the new 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 after seeing it in pictures from Japan was the LED tail lights. The lights give the car a nice symmetry with the back of the car and the shape. When the Mazdaspeed 3 arrived in North America we were not given the choice of the LED tail lights. (Read more...)

CorkSport Power Series Racepipe

10/09/2009

The next step we made with the CorkSport project Mazdaspeed 3 was the Power Series Racepipe. Built from polished 304 stainless it is a shame the part is hidden under the car. After being heat cycled the pipe will turn a beautiful gold color. Installation takes a little under an hour and the power gains are noticable in seat of the pants driving. There was a small difference in the sound of the exhaust with the installation but it is really minor. Combined with the CorkSport SRI the power gains are impressive. The project car recorded power gains of 41 wheel horsepower on the dyno. With the future installation of the downpipe and our cat back exhaust (both are under development) the racepipe will help the project car produce even higher power gains.

The Project gets new shoes

12/29/2009

The styling of the Mazdaspeed 3 is a cutting edge design with some debatable shapes. One thing I have thought was the car needed the wheels set out further to help the lines of the car. This gives the car a more "filled out" look when the car is viewed from the front or the rear of the car. So after giving it some thought we chose to equip our Mazdaspeed 3 project with Yokohama Advan RZ wheels. (Read more...)

CorkSport License Plate Kit

1/22/2010

2010 Mazdaspeed 3 License plate relocation kit

For the last 8 months we have been driving our Mazdaspeed 3 without a front license plate. We were fortunate to get a car with no holes drilled in the front bumper. The stock location for the plate really doesn't do much for style with the 2010 models. So we decided to come up with an alternative solution for mounting the plate, the License Plate Mounting Kit The kit uses the tow hook location to secure the machined billet aluminum bracket to the car. We used security fasteners to keep the punks from trying to steal the aluminum artwork from the front of the Mazdaspeed 3 (they are included in the kit). The bracket definately gets looks from everyone on how sturdy and good looking the kit is.

AutoExe

2/19/2010

We decided to really change the look of the project car with the installation of the AutoExe front bumper. The difference in the look of the car is really noticeable. The bumper sits lower and further forward compared to the factory bumper cover. (Read more...)

Project Mazdaspeed 3 Update

04/23/2010

We have been hard at work with the project car and new products. We have been developing the FMIC kit for the 2010-up Mazdaspeed 3. Our product engineers have been working on the intercooler kit development. One thing we have been working on is having the option of using our Power Series Intake System with the FMIC kit as well as our ram air intake system. More updates soon including our 80mm exhaust system.

LED Interior Lighting

05/28/2010

LED lights are great. They use less power, put out more light, and can produce a clean color light in this case white. We have been working on producing LED light kits for the 2010 models and we used our project car for the test work. (Read more...)

H&R Sport Lowering Springs

07/15/2010

lowered speed 3

Installation of performance suspension springs can do several things for your Mazdaspeed 3. The first is visually change the way it looks by setting your Mazda lower to the ground. The springs also change the amount of wheel well that is open between the wheel and the car body. (Read more...)

CorkSport Silicone Radiator Hoses

09/29/2010

The

We have just released reinforced silicone radiator hoses for the Mazdaspeed 3.  The silicone hoses offer a better resistance to extreme temperatures which upgraded vehicles can produce.  In our Mazdaspeed 3 project we have been upgrading components to push the performance past what Mazda intended. CorkSport Aluminum Skid Plate

10/12/2010

We officially released the CorkSport aluminum skid plate today for the 2010+ Mazda 3 and Mazdaspeed 3.  We have been testing the part out for several months now on our project Mazdaspeed 3. We even subjected it to the harsh freeways of Los Angeles during a trip to Mazfest back in August this year. (Read more...)

CorkSport Cat-Back Exhaust

11/14/2010

Getting back to the power adders we installed one of our production exhaust systems on our Mazdaspeed 3. The exhaust is manufactured from polished 304 stainless steel and TIG welded like all of the other CorkSport exhaust products. We mated up the Catback to our CorkSport racepipe we installed already. (Read more...)

CorkSport 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 Project Car Update

9/23/2011

We have been remiss in our duties of keeping our project car page up to date. In our last post on 11/14/2010 we had installed the CorkSport Mazdaspeed 3 Cat Back Exhaust. Since then we have installed and uninstalled many CorkSport brand products on the 2010 Mazdaspeed 3. (Read more...)

CorkSport 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 Winter 2012 Update

3/9/2012

This winter out project Mazdaspeed 3 has seen a wide range part parts installed, tested, and uninstalled. The current parts getting tested out are mostly new suspension parts, but we'll be back on the power soon. (Read more...)

CorkSport 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 Project Car Update

8/07/2012

Well it's been a while since we had a proper update, but we've been pounding away on new parts here at the shop. This is probably our biggest undertaking for the MS3 to date in terms of engineering. CorkSport Coilover Suspension! We've got them installed and slammed the car down to see how it looks. (Click here for additional info and pictures)
