The Project Gets New Shoes

12/29/2009

The styling of the Mazdaspeed 3 is a cutting edge design with some debatable shapes. One thing I have thought was the car needed the wheels set out further to help the lines of the car. This gives the car a more "filled out" look when the car is viewed from the front or the rear of the car. So after giving it some thought we chose to equip our Mazdaspeed 3 project with Yokohama Advan RZ wheels. We went with 19 x 8.5 inch wheels with a +45mm offset. This put the wheels further to the outside of the car as well as giving us a larger foot print. The tires installed were again a Yokohama product, the S-Drive tire in a 235/35/19 size. We chose the S-Drive tire over a MP (Maximum Performance) tire since we live in a climate where the car would be driving in rain.

The wheel and tire set weighs 42 lbs each. The original wheels and tires weigh 48 lbs each. With the 235/35 tire the diameter of the new wheels and tires are the same as the original so there will not be any speedometer changes. After driving on the new wheels and tires you can tell there is a shorter tire. The car feels more responsive in cornering and they give the driver more feedback on the road surfaces.

The car looks incredible with the new wheels and tires. The setup sits flush with the car body and makes the Mazdaspeed 3 look mean. From all angles the car looks for lack of a better term, beefy.
