The Mazda 3 Turbo Cold Air Intake Box is a great addition to help reduce intake air temperatures by creating a barrier from heat sources in the engine bay, such as the radiator, engine and transmission. The Mazda 3 Turbo Cold Air Box creates a direct path of fresh air to the Short Ram Intake using the factory air duct, along with an opening to the fender area. Keep on scrolling for the full details on the CS Turbo Cold Air Box!

The CorkSport Advantage

cold-air-intake-mazda-3-turbo-2022

Performance Advantage:

The CorkSport Cold Air Box uses two fresh air sources to feed the filter: the OEM fresh air duct and an additional opening to the fender well area. The airbox itself then blocks out the hot air produced by surrounding components in the engine bay. This lowers the inlet air temperature and results in the potential for additional performance!

Testing:

Testing of the CorkSport Air Box resulted in a sizable reduction in Intake Air Temperatures or IATs when compared to testing of the CS Short Ram Intake alone. Over the duration of the test, we found that the average IATs were 13 degrees colder with the Turbo Air Box installed. For the test, we focused on a long duration stop and then accelerated up to highway speeds to show what might happen during heavy traffic or when waiting for a long traffic light. The graph shows a widening gap between the SRI and SRI + Turbo Air Box as the time during the stop progresses. This is a result of the increase in IATs happening at a slower rate when the CS Turbo Air Box is installed, leading to a lower peak temperature once the stop is completed. This reduction in IATs can lead to additional performance when accelerating back up to speed.

OEM Fitment:

During the design process of the Intake Cold Air Box, maintaining the ease of installation was a top priority. The factory mounting locations have been retained along with the rubber isolators found in the OEM setup. This makes the installation straightforward and ensures that the CS Cold Air Box is allowed to move like the OEM system as needed during operation. The fresh air duct is also utilized to ensure that the best source of air is fed into the Mazda 3 Turbo Cold Air Box.

Serviceable Design:

Checking and servicing the air filter is made simple with direct access through the top of the Cold Air Box after removing the acrylic lid. It also allows for a peek at the filter for a great look in your engine bay!

Materials and Design:

Mazda 3 Turbo SRI Cold Air Box is made using a technique called Rotomolding and the specific material used is HDPE Plastic that has a thickness of 5mm or 0.190in. This material has been used on existing CorkSport parts such as the 2021+ Mazda 3 Turbo Inlet Pipe and has demonstrated great durability and resistance to the elements. For the access lid, transparent acrylic was selected to provide a view into the Cold Air Box so the filter and MAF housing could remain on display.

SRI + Cold Air Box Designed to Work Together:

Maximize the performance of the CorkSport Short Ram Intake by pairing it up with the Turbo Cold Air Box to help block out performance reducing hot air from surrounding engine bay components. The CS Cold Air Box takes advantage of the factory fresh air duct and air that enters from the fender area to provide the best source for the CS SRI.

Does cold airbox replace the heat shield? It doesn't look like you can have both.

Will this box muffle intake sounds in any notable way?

With the temps on the rise can definitely say this is something highly recommend especially with going with the tip, and intake system.

Good Day, Just installed;
MAZDA 3 TURBO INTAKE COLD AIRBOXAXO-6-115-10
MAZDA 3 TURBO INTAKE SYSTEM COMBO - SHORT RAMINTAKE & TURBO INLET PIPE - ALL 2.5 TURBO MODELS (BLACK, RED) AXO-6-121-61120
I am putting this review under both items, I figure if someone doesn’t like that they can move one.
BLUF: I like it!
The Butt Dydno noticed a change in initial thrust, and when passing, especially when NOT in sport mode.
In sport mode the difference is less but still there.
the biggest difference is hearing the Recirculation valve pop when coming off the throttle. You can tell the turbo is working even when you (or at least I) didn’t think it was.
While you can hear the spool up, you probably need the window down and have to listen, or I just have old guy ears.

As always the instructions are complete and well written, since I was installing both and didn’t see anything with instructions to install both from Stock, I used both sets of instructions.
I believe that now that the Air box is available, a set of specific instructions for both from stock would be helpful. I believe more people will buy that combo in the future.
The order of events and what to assemble when, is not always exact and the writer has to pick what they believe would work best, even when other ways are still acceptable.
In my particular case with installing both at the same time on a Stock 2026 Mazda 3 Turbo, I found that some deviation from the instructions worked better for me.
I am in no way saying the instructions are not correct, I have always been impressed with the level of detail in CorkSport’s Instructions.
I recommend installing the Airbox first, and if Stock like me, see the note that says start on Step 5. I had to pull pretty hard to get the intake tube off of the turbo inlet pipe.
In Step 11, “Attach the bracket to the Air Box leaving them just loose enough so that the bracket can still slide in the slots.” This wasn’t working for me I was having trouble lining up the two rubber isolators, and getting them flush while still getting the third Isolator in place.
So I detached the bracket from the airbox and put the isolators over the pins first, then slid in the box and put the screws in, there is enough room.
In Step 12, “Install the bracket in the orientation shown and use a 10mm socket and ratchet with an extension to tighten until the bracket is snug but can still be adjusted later.”
I had a similar issue as above, but it came when trying to line up the MAF with the Short Ram Intake & Turbo Inlet Pipe (Step 25 in the Short Ram Intake & Turbo Inlet Pipe instructions) I just couldn’t get the MAF to line up so I could put in the two screws with the blue threadlocker. In my case those were screws were for Allen wrenches.
To resolve this, I attached the bracket to the MAF first (screws loose) then installed the MAF with the suppled Clamps and then put in the Long screws to mount the bracket to the Airbox.
While this worked, there was not enough room to use an Allen wrench to tighten these up. Seems like there is plenty of space to make the Airbox a ¼” wider, or just use regular cap screws and we can use a regular wrench to tighten them up.
I plan to replace these screws soon so I can properly tighten them.
Other than that Installation was a breeze, and still only took 3 Hrs for both pieces.

Perfect! Just what I needed to complete the CAI. Build quality is great, and it looks amazing once installed.

Grateful for CorkSport for putting out such a well designed cold air box for the 4th-gen Turbo 3. Intake temps are noticeably lower, which helps keep power consistent, reduces heat soak, and gives more peace of mind during spirited drives. Super easy install with the OEM air duct and pairs perfectly with the short ram intake and turbo inlet pipe
