The CorkSport Heat Shield is a great addition to the already fantastic CS Short Ram Intake that we offer for the Mazda 3 Turbo and CX-30 Turbo. The CS Heat Shield helps block out unwanted heat that comes from the radiator, engine and transmission providing the CS SRI with fresh air. The barrier reduces heat soak while stationary and helps funnel cooler ambient air to the intake faster once driving. The CS Heat Shield is a great mod if you want to elevate the performance of your Mazda whether you already have a CS SRI or if you want to get the whole package at the same time.

The CorkSport Advantage

2021 Mazda 3 cold air box

Design & Fitment:

The CorkSport Heat Shield for the SkyActiv 2.5T in both the Mazda 3 and CX-30 is designed to reduce the intake air temp and is achieved in a couple ways. First, by blocking out heat coming from the radiator, engine and transmission. Second, by providing fresh air to the air filter. We accomplish the first goal by creating a barrier between the engine and air filter as well as sealing the side facing towards the engine with a gasket to further reduce hot air from getting to the air filter. The cool fresh air is piped into the heat shield using the factory air box ducting and the open fender /wheel well. Installing the CS Heat Shield is quick and easy from the utilization of the OEM air box mounting points so that no modifications or other brackets are required.

Mazda 3 turbo heat shield test data

Testing:

Testing of the CorkSport Heat Shield was critical to make sure the heat shield performed as designed. Testing included both spirited daily driving and remaining stationary to gain a good understanding of how intake air temps are affected with and without the heat shield installed. From these test we found that when the CS Heat Shield is installed, the average reduction in inlet air temperature was almost 10°F cooler over the duration of the test. Check out the graph to the right to see exactly how the CS Heat Shield performed against the CS SRI without the heat shield under similar conditions. The test was more demanding than a typical drive to show how both setups would perform under harsh conditions that you might see sitting in traffic on a hot day.

Materials & Manufacturing:

The CorkSport SRI Heat Shield is made from carbon steel that is laser cut and precision formed. The use of steel over other materials ensures good strength and provides a low amount of heat transfer through the material. The CS Heat Shield is separated into multiple pieces and is riveted together using stainless steel rivets to provide resistance to corrosion so they remain strong and continue to look good for a long time to come. All the heat shield sections are powder coated in wrinkle black to give a durable and great looking finish when installed in your engine bay.

Picked this up at the same time as the SRI for my 2022. It went in incredibly fast and easy. Not much to say about a heat shield other than it does its job very well and the engine bay looks much better.

One thing to note: a couple reviews have stated the tab on the factory snorkel caused a gap. It requires a bit of twisting and some prodding at the gasket on the heat shield, but you can get that tab firmly inside and the snorkel locked into place that way. It took me a minute or two.
Not much to say about a heat shield. It went on easy, it looks great, and keeping intake temperatures low is important because of air density blahblah. I wouldn't get the intake with the heat shield. I think it's a great design that isolates the air filter from the engine very well.
This is a great supplemental mod for the intake. It allows the intake to pull cool air from the factory snorkel. It allows quick launches from sitting at red lights rather than the car bogging down from heat soak.
Heat shield fit like a glove with the Corksport turbo CAI . Parts and packaging are always spot on .
With Corksport's instructions this made a nice addition to the intake and helped with the air temperature.
Fits nicely and hides most of the hot air from the intake. Requires some finageling to pair the oem intake duct with the heat shield but if your careful it fits just fine. Fantastic product.
Great simple design, IATs are happy little campers with a happy little fence.
I agree with both commenters, using it the stock inlet is a great way to manage space, but I did have a gap attaching it to the heat shield due to those tabs. Hopefully the weather stripping is robust enough to handle the vibrations caused by this, we'll see as time goes by.
Creates an excellent seal against engine heat and very cleverly uses the stock snorkel to deliver cold air right to the filter element area. My IAT's barely reach a few degrees above ambient, ever, while moving, so concern of engine heat with an open filter like this is a non-issue. It's pretty much like an airbox where the hood itself is the lid. Unlike the previous reviewer, I had no issue with any gap where the snorkel inlet feeds into the lower part of the shield, it's easy to twist right into place before mounting the 2 attached pieces into the engine bay as one attached unit.
Great design and fits right up against the insulation from under the hood. Had already installed the Corksport SRI before buying this product so the install wasn't bad at all. Only thing I didn't like was Step 14 of the installation paper, " Insert the OEM air duct into the lower hole in the CS Heat Shield as shown" which on the OEM air duct has a couple locking lips on each side to where it twists onto the OEM air filter box but with the Corksport heatshield doesn't have a locking mechanism and just sits inside of the opening so there is a little bit of an opening.

Will you be making a SRI Heat Shield for the 2019+ model SRI? Specifically the earlier SRIs made for the 2019 non-turbo mazda 3?
