How To Install A CorkSport Short Shift Plate

The installation of our Mazda short shift plate takes a mere 20-30 minutes with some simple hand tools. Installation is easy and requires little to no prior experience. An absolute must for MT drivers - this mod makes your shifts short and crisp. Its easy to install, pretty inexpensive, very durable, and simply effective. I previously had a JBR one that over time the pin where the shifter cable sat became loose… been running this CS short shift plate for quite some time now and can confidently say this one is built different.

The instructions make this an easy part to install yourself. I DEFINITELY noticed an improvement in the shortness of the throw of the shifter with this part. This is how the shifter should be from stock!

Simple enough installation. End result is not as drastic as I had anticipated, but it's certainly appropriate for a 2018 Mazda 6 sport. The Superklasse shift knob I have already sits low compared to the stock knob height, so this mod pairs well with it.

Only complaint is that the three hex screws used to secure the underside of the plate to the weighted shift arm has some very weak heads. The metal started to deform as I was tightening, though at that point, I'm sure it was tight enough anyways.

A must have for the 3rd gen 3 or 6 installed along with the shifter bushings make it feel almost like a an Miata shifter. Worth the money to get rid of the crappy stock bushings that will just get worse with age, thank you corksport your products are awesome.

Very happy with the product, I have installed it in combination with the shift knob and the shifter bushings so my review will need to take into consideration this fact.

I have owned the car stock since 2016 and have put roughly 125,000 km on it in that time. In that time my complaints about the shifter is that it always had to click into each gear twice (or so it would seem). Kind of a "clunk clunk" if you will. I never had problems with side to side compliance, but I have missed shifts because I got off the clutch a little early before the gear was completely engaged.

With the short shift kit installed it is a more singular feeling now. I can feel the gear engage quicker and as a result the shift feeling is significantly improved.

As an amateur mechanic I found installation to be slightly intimidating at first (removal of ECU, air box, etc) however it did only take about 2 hours in my driveway for complete installation. I will say the instructions for installation could use some proofreading or slight editing, but for the most part installation was easier than expected.

All in all I would recommend this product at this price point. Long term we will see if we experience some problems highlighted in other reviews (i.e. shifter linkage coming off), I have only used the product for 100 km so I am interested in long term reliability.

The shorter shifter is all around great, I really see no downsides to it. The throws are a good bit shorter after installation. You get that typical, "Am I in gear?" feeling but of course it's working just fine. I have seen reviews mention the shifter has gotten heavier but, imo, it feels more normal again. My previous car was an 05 Impreza so perhaps that is just a very unrefined vehicle but I have zero issues with the shifter post installation. The quicker shifts also help with the horrendously short shift times needed when your A/C compressor is running. I definitely recommend.

Awesome product. Shortened the shifts by about 30% and removed the weird resistance my gearbox had when going from 3rd to 4th gear.

Great part and super easy to install. I had this finished in 30 minutes with a beer in one hand. I coupled this mod with the light weight main crank pulley and it dramatically reduced the shift time. The double edged sword is that 33% less shift distance equals 33% more muscle required to move it, which is a little saddening considering how extremely smooth the stock shift settup is, however it gives the stick a very solid, mechanical feel, which I like. You know without question you're in gear. Very easy, very affective, and very worth the money.

Great product and love the solid feel. However, I can not press down anymore firmly on the shifter linkage to the shifter arm so it falls off after driving for a bit. Help?

This is a great product and only took 10 minutes to install. If you already have a CAI on your car, it makes the installation even simpler. Throws are noticeably shorter. I combined this with the shifter bushings and the experience is vastly improved. It was already a solid shifter to begin with, but improves it even more.

Is there a way to keep the shifter linkage down on the shifter arm? It pop's off after driving for a bit and it is as far down as I can press it. Aside from that annoying issue, the product works great.

Just installed and i am really happy with the results. The shift throw are noticeably shorter. My wife also noticed the difference. I also paired it with the shifter bushings.

So I was going to write a review on the shifter bushings, but there is no review spot s here is my review.

The short shifter bracket is great. But I installed the bushings first, went for a drive and I actually think that there is a bigger difference with the shift bushings then the short throw. The shifts feel more responsive and direct. You know your in gear and there is no more slop in the shifter. The short shifter just shortened the throw on top of it. Great combo with the two together.

Shifter plate changes angle of shifter cable and cause the cable to come off the bushing leaving you stranded. I have contacted cs and they have no answer to this problem. I would not buy this plate unless you plan on being on the side of the road often.
