Keep the 2 Flat
In our Mazda 2 competing at the Oregon Region SCCA autocross events we get a great arena to push the Mazda 2 to it limits in a safe enviroment. This also gives us a chance to see where improvements can be made with the Mazda 2. One thing we noticed was the front of the 2 would dive and roll more than we wanted when turning into a corner at the limits of the cornering capabilities. We set out to resolve the problem and we came up with our new Mazda 2 front swaybar. The new swaybar improves the feel of the 2 under cornering and really amplifies the rear torsion bar's effectiveness. I was able to get the 2 to enter into predictable oversteer while at maximum cornering. As a benchmark at the autocrosses I use the class leading Civics as a measuring tool. At the start of the season I was within 3 seconds of the two local winning cars. At the last event in the Mazda 2 with the new swaybar was able to get the Mazda 2 within a second of their times. One thing that has not changed with the Mazda 2 after the installation of the new swaybar is the street ride and comfort. With the new swaybar installed around town driving feels like it did with the stock swaybar until you get into the corners where the improved swaybar really shines.
