Why use a Turbo or Manifold Heat Blanket on your Mazdaspeed? Three main reasons and they all focus around heat control. Heat is good and bad depending on where that heat is going.
A turbo blanket will protect surrounding components from excessive heat comping from the turbine. Components like your Top Mount Intercooler, silicone couplers, fire wall and the wiring/plumbing hidden behind it as well and electrical components like your alternator.
In the opposite of that, the turbo blanket will retain that heat in the manifold where it will help use that heat energy to improve turbo spool and response. Yes, exhaust heat, pressure and flow are what actually spool the turbine inside.
Lastly, and specifically about heat control. The excess heat is better kept from the turbocharger compressor side āthe cold sideā and this again helps with spool and response.
Knowing this, CorkSport worked with PTP Turbo Blankets, a leader in Turbo & Manifold Heat Control Blankets, to develop a custom fitment specific to the CorkSport design requirements.
The CorkSport Turbo Blanket has an outer material made of volcanic lava rock that is manufactured into a fabric which has a rated direct contact temperature of 1800°F and can withstand radiant heat temperatures up to 2500°F. The CS Turbo Blanket also features an internal layer of calcium magnesium silicate wool that works as an insulator that can withstand continuous temperatures of 1832°F and peak temperatures of 2300°F. This inner insulating layer is covered with high temp stainless steel mesh to further improve durability and makes sure the CS Turbo Blanket can hold up in the most demanding situations.
Two turbo blankets have been designed so that configurations of both IWG and EWG CS turbos ranging from the CST4 all the way to the CST6 have the best fit. The CS Turbo Blankets were also designed so that they cover the most amount of the turbine housing as they can to provide the best insulation performance. The CS Turbo Blanket also comes equipped with stainless steel springs that hold the blanket tight to the turbo so the installation of the blanket is made quick and can be easily done on car. This also applies to the removal of the blanket so you don’t have to bother with undoing wire if you ever need to access the turbo.

So I have boost temps of above 150 right now, how many degrees do you think it would lower it?
The turbo blanket does help lower underhood temps. We have done a data test to see the difference with BATs
