H&R Sport Lowering Springs

07/15/2010

Installation of performance suspension springs can do several things for your Mazdaspeed 3. The first is visually change the way it looks by setting your Mazda lower to the ground. The springs also change the amount of wheel well that is open between the wheel and the car body. The second thing performance springs accomplish is to change the handling by using a different spring rate which in the 2010 Mazdaspeed's case is stiffer. This translates into the suspension requiring more force to compress the spring.  The upgraded springs combined with other suspension improvements can raise the amount of cornering load your car can take resulting in higher speed and better grip in corners or emergency manuevers while driving.

We chose to install the H&R Sport Springs on our 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 project car.  H&R has a great reputation for quality and excellent improvement in handling in all of the vehicles we have used their products.  We have been selling H&R for last 12 years with zero problems.  Installation took us 4 hours and does require a spring compressor for the front suspension.  The H&R Sport Springs springs lowered our Mazdaspeed 3 1.3 inches front and back.

The first impressions I had after installation is the ride quality is still good.  With the increased spring rate the ride did not get really choppy on the freeway.  The big difference I noticed was in cornering.  The Mazdaspeed 3 feel really planted now and the body does not have as much roll.  The car feels like it wants you to go faster into the corners and really push the limits.  I have not had a chance to take the car to the limit with the springs installed yet and see what kind of g-loads it can produce.

For a modification to the suspension this is a must for everyone who owns a Mazdaspeed 3 even if it is the only modification you do.
