The 2nd generation of the Mazda 3 was an evolution of the 1st gen as the 2.0 engine was a carry over as well as the 2.5 motor which was a larger displacement version of the 2.3 offered in the 2004-2009 model 3. The 2.0 makes 148 horsepower and 135 torque while the 2.5 offers 169 horsepower and 168 torque. In 2012 Mazda rolled out the 2.0 Skyactiv engine in the Mazda 3 to replace the MZR based engine.
