Lots of you have asked so we have delivered! Introducing the CorkSport Heat Shield for Mazdas equipped with the 2.5T engine. Get some cooler intake air for your Mazda 6 Turbo, CX-5 Turbo, or CX-9 by blocking the heat from the engine, and drawing fresh air in with the OEM ducting and fender well. This lowers stress on your turbo system so you can keep making power, no matter the outside temperature! Whether you’re upgrading your existing CorkSport Short Ram Intake, or are getting the whole package at once, the CorkSport heat shield is a great mod to compliment your build.#ZoomZoom!

When you add this Heat Shield and the Short Ram Intake to the checkout cart you will automatically get our combo pricing saving you $10!

The CorkSport Advantage

2016+ Mazda CX9 Intake System

Temperature Focused:

The CorkSport Heat Shield for SkyActiv 2.5T reduces intake air temp in two ways: by blocking heat and by directing cool air in. We carefully designed the shield to seal off the intake from as much engine bay heat as possible. Then, the OEM air ducting is retained to feed cool outside air to the filter along with an open path for cooler fender well air to enter, resulting reduced intake air temps. While not as crucial on turbocharged cars, the lower intake air temps means your turbo and intercooler do not have to work as hard to make the same power on hot summer days! For more info on why this is true, check out our blog for this product!

Testing and Validation:

We went through extensive testing to ensure that the CS heat shield functions exactly as intended. Through both daily driving and torture testing on the dyno, the CorkSport Heat Shield showed decreased intake air temps. While we did not see any definite power gains, your engine and turbo system won’t be working nearly as hard to make that power. Check out the image to the right to see a comparison of intake air temps between the CS SRI only vs. the CS SRI & Heat Shield under the same conditions. This is a little exaggerated due to the decreased airflow when on the dyno but is similar to what your engine could see when sitting in traffic on a hot day, then accelerating back up to speed.

Materials & Manufacturing:

The CorkSport SRI Heat Shield is made from laser cut and precision formed carbon steel. This ensures good strength and low heat transfer through the material. The upper and lower sections are riveted together using stainless steel rivets for a great look and strong shield. We finish it off with a wrinkle black powdercoat that really makes the heat shield blend into the engine bay and look like a factory performance part. We also include rubber edge seal to help keep heat out and prevent any vibration noises.

How to install 2018-2021 Mazda 6 Cold Air Intake

Really easy to install and looks great. I had to pull the bracket off the MAF sensor to get it to fit on the mounts, but once I did that, I put it back on and it was perfect. Just needed shifting a bit. I don't know if this really does much for performance, but it's nice knowing the intake is getting cooler and cleaner air into the turbo.
I was confused by the section for the factory air intake connection. It doesn't connect at all. Just kind of sits there at an angle. The other item was the confusing photos on the isolation plugs. Two different photos showing two different positions. I have some upside down and need to redo those. Everything becomes really tight with no slack once installed. Getting all the clamps tight and the tubes in place is harder than it needs to be. Make that elbow tube about 1/2" longer and we're good. On the positive, there is no unwanted noise.
Not sure if it's worth the price, but the peace of mind of having cooler temps is always nice to have. Not only that, with the SRI, the intake has a noticeable difference in sound. This should come bundled with it already, but I would recommend for longevity of the engine. Not sure about power gains, if any. I can assume the cooler air increases power a little bit (maybe 1-2hp).
