{"id":8303,"date":"2016-08-12T08:16:20","date_gmt":"2016-08-12T16:16:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.corksport.com\/blog\/?p=8303"},"modified":"2018-09-13T13:08:46","modified_gmt":"2018-09-13T21:08:46","slug":"new-diesel-mazda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/new-diesel-mazda\/","title":{"rendered":"Could It Be True A New Diesel Mazda Is on the Way?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It has been a while since I touched on the subject of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.corksport.com\/blog\/diesel-mazdaspeed-rumors-mazda-6-3-2016-2017\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mazda giving diesel a shot<\/a> again in the United States. Back in 2012, it looked promising that we would be getting the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autotrader.com\/car-news\/new-mazda-diesel-headed-for-us-130773\" target=\"_blank\">Skyactiv diesel-powered vehicles<\/a> like the rest of the planet. After working on the calibrations to meet the U.S. emission standards, Mazda discovered they could meet the emissions, but could not hit the power levels to give owners the driving experience Mazda is known for. Mazda wanted to hit the targets without the addition of urea injection to clean up emissions. They were squarely behind the diesels, even <a href=\"https:\/\/jalopnik.com\/5964338\/the-diesel-powered-mazda6-is-going-racing\" target=\"_blank\">racing the Mazda 6 diesel<\/a> in IMSA, 25 hours of Thunder Hill, and in <a href=\"https\/\/blackflag.jalopnik.com\/ask-mazda-diesel-prototype-racers-nunez-and-bomarito-an-1681421789\" target=\"_blank\">prototypes<\/a>. If Mazda went the conventional path and setup the Skyactiv D engine with urea injection and a system to monitor NOx, could they hit the power numbers they wanted and still meet the strict CARB emissions requirements?<\/p>\n<p>I have a feeling Mazda will be redeeming itself by showing the world that you can have a fun diesel and meet the real world emissions standards (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.consumerreports.org\/cro\/cars\/guide-to-the-volkswagen-dieselgate-emissions-recall-\" target=\"_blank\">unlike a certain German company<\/a>). Four years is enough time to revise the existing engine, test it, and set up manufacturing, as well as any other improvements to overall design.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-8306 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Screen-Shot-2016-08-12-at-8.49.29-AM.png\" alt=\"Diesel Mazda | CorkSport Blog\" width=\"577\" height=\"430\" srcset=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Screen-Shot-2016-08-12-at-8.49.29-AM.png 577w, https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Screen-Shot-2016-08-12-at-8.49.29-AM-300x224.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 577px) 100vw, 577px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>What to expect in the new diesel Mazda<\/h2>\n<p>In the face-lifted <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.mazda.com\/en\/publicity\/release\/2016\/201607\/160714b.html\" target=\"_blank\">Mazda 3 soon to be released<\/a>, Mazda has added in another option for a diesel motor: the 1.5 engine, which is used in the Mazda 2 as an option. This shows Mazda\u2019s commitment to dropping the engine into all models, which makes sense. If there was an overall plan to move away from the diesels, we would not be seeing this.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mazdausa.com\/vehicles\/mazda6\" target=\"_blank\">current Mazda 6<\/a> is a face-lift from 2015, and Mazda does a good job of sticking with three-year cycles on their styling. This gives us a fourth generation Mazda 6, which should be appearing soon, to install the revised motor and get a shot at the redemption for the U.S. market.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-8307\" src=\"https:\/\/www.corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Screen-Shot-2016-08-12-at-8.49.46-AM.png\" alt=\"Fourth Gen Mazda 6 | CorkSport Blog\" width=\"600\" height=\"303\" srcset=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Screen-Shot-2016-08-12-at-8.49.46-AM.png 752w, https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Screen-Shot-2016-08-12-at-8.49.46-AM-300x152.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The appeal of the diesel is there. <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/cK5SQkEUBdo\" target=\"_blank\">Mazda USA posted a YouTube video<\/a> back in 2012 touting the benefits of \u201can exceptionally high redline of 5200 rpm.
