{"id":2000,"date":"2011-09-06T11:06:25","date_gmt":"2011-09-06T18:06:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.corksport.com\/blog\/?p=2000"},"modified":"2018-09-13T13:32:00","modified_gmt":"2018-09-13T21:32:00","slug":"featured-car-of-the-month-september-2011-domii%e2%80%99s-mazda-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/featured-car-of-the-month-september-2011-domii%e2%80%99s-mazda-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Featured Car of the Month September 2011 &#8211; Domii\u2019s Mazda 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s not often that you come across women that take the modified car scene seriously, but if you\u2019re a female and know your way around your car, from installing a performance exhaust system to spending your weekend\u2019s auto-crossing, there\u2019s a place for you in the performance world too.<\/p>\n<p>Domenique first became interested in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.corksport.com\/\" Target=\"_\">Mazda performance<\/a> when she went to the NEPOC meet in 2009 with her boyfriend Jordan in his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.corksport.com\/04-09-rx8\/\" Target=\"_\">RX8<\/a>. She was immediately attracted to the great cars at the Spring Clean Meet and met some great people that turned her on to a whole new world of modding and performance. By June of 2009 she was hooked and knew that she needed a Mazda of her own to mod. <\/p>\n<p>Initially Domenique wanted a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.corksport.com\/2010-mazdaspeed-3\/\" Target=\"_\">Mazdaspeed 3,<\/a> but when she saw the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.corksport.com\/2011-mazda-2\/\" Target=\"_\">2011 Mazda 2 Sport,<\/a> she fell in love. \u201cThe car was the perfect size. I loved how light and small it was and how well it handled\u201d said Domenique, \u201cThis was my first manual, but the Mazda 2 was so easy drive, it was cake to learn.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.corksport.com\/blogs\/179-Mz2\/Dom1.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Wheels and lowering springs were the first priorities on Domenique\u2019s list when she began her new project car. After talking with one of our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.corksport.com\/\" Target=\"_\">CorkSport<\/a> experts, she settled on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.corksport.com\/h-and-r-springs-sport-lowering-springs-mazda-2.html\" Target=\"_\">H&#038;R springs<\/a> and also decided to purchase a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.corksport.com\/corksport-mazda-2-torsion-bar.html\" Target=\"_\">CorkSport Rear Torsion Bar<\/a> to add much needed roll resistance to the rear of the Mazda 2. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat an improvement in handling!\u201d said Domenique, \u201cThe car not only looked much better, but the handling got much tighter and the turn response improved greatly.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>She decided to go with 15\u2019s on the wheels to keep the weight of the car down and went with powder coated Kosei K1\u2019s 15&#215;7 with a +27 offset.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.corksport.com\/blogs\/179-Mz2\/Dom2.jpg\"> <\/p>\n<p>As her first power upgrade, Domenique installed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.corksport.com\/corksport-mazda-2-short-ram-intake.html\" Target=\"_\">CorkSport Short Ram Intake<\/a> which gave the car a noticeable gain in power and a nice grunt to the engine and has since added a Power Pulse Muffler Exhaust. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.corksport.com\/blogs\/179-Mz2\/Dom3.jpg\"> <\/p>\n<p>Future projects include a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.corksport.com\/corksport-mazda-2-lightweight-crankshaft-pulley.html\" Target=\"_\">CorkSport Lightweight Crankshaft Pulley,<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.corksport.com\/corksport-mazda-2-front-strut-tower-brace.html\" Target=\"_\">CorkSport Front Strut Bar,<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.corksport.com\/corksport-mazda-2-rear-chassis-brace.html\" Target=\"_\">CorkSport Rear Chassis Brace,<\/a> tint, and a sound system. <\/p>\n<p>Domenique\u2019s new love for car modding has translated into another new love for autocrossing. On August 20th, she took the MZ2 out for the first time Auto-crossing at Renegade Miata and learned just what the car was capable of. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.corksport.com\/blogs\/179-Mz2\/Dom4.jpg\"> <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI never really thought I would have been so interested in customizing a car.
