The smaller the wheel trim, the faster the spool and response. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Size Matters in the Mazdaspeed Turbo<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/2006-2013-disi-mzr-cst5-turbo-upgrade.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"681\" src=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/mazdspeed-performance-turbo-cst5-1-1024x681.jpg\" alt=\"Mazdaspeed CST5 turbo Sizing \" class=\"wp-image-11142\" srcset=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/mazdspeed-performance-turbo-cst5-1-1024x681.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/mazdspeed-performance-turbo-cst5-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/mazdspeed-performance-turbo-cst5-1-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/mazdspeed-performance-turbo-cst5-1.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">CST5 Sizing<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Alright, here is the most important and commonly overlooked aspect of a <a href=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/2006-2013-disi-mzr-cst5-turbo-upgrade.html\">turbocharger<\/a>. \u00a0There is a rule of thumb when sizing the compressor and turbine wheels for a turbocharger. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the turbine is too large, then the turbocharger will be very \u201clazy\u201d and have trouble building boost. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the turbine is too small then the compressor may be overpowering the turbine wheel causing excessive exhaust gas buildup that can rob power even though you may be running a very high boost pressure. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So what is the right balance? &nbsp;From our experience in turbocharger design, development and validation along with industry professionals we have consulted there is a rule of thumb we have found when sizing the compressor and turbine wheels. &nbsp;The exducer of the compressor wheel should be 10-15% larger than the inducer of the turbine wheel as shown in the image above.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"871\" height=\"798\" src=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/mazdspeed-3-performance-turbo-cst5-1.jpg\" alt=\"CST5 turbo for the Mazdaspeed\" class=\"wp-image-11143\" srcset=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/mazdspeed-3-performance-turbo-cst5-1.jpg 871w, https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/mazdspeed-3-performance-turbo-cst5-1-300x275.jpg 300w, https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/mazdspeed-3-performance-turbo-cst5-1-768x704.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>So why does this work? &nbsp;Well, let\u2019s look back a bit first. &nbsp;Many think you can just install a larger and\/or higher flowing compressor wheel onto the <a href=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/2006-2013-disi-mzr-cst5-turbo-upgrade.html\">turbocharger to make more power<\/a>. &nbsp;Now that is true to a point, but quickly the approach becomes very inefficient for the engine.
