{"id":10370,"date":"2018-08-14T06:11:58","date_gmt":"2018-08-14T14:11:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/?p=10370"},"modified":"2023-04-20T12:39:28","modified_gmt":"2023-04-20T20:39:28","slug":"2018-mazda-6-performance-parts-cold-side-boost-tube","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/2018-mazda-6-performance-parts-cold-side-boost-tube\/","title":{"rendered":"2018 Mazda 6 Performance Parts \u2013 Cold Side Boost Tube"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You have probably heard us mention the new Turbocharger Mazda 6 in recent weeks and months and have probably been wondering; \u201cwhat\u2019s going on?\u201d \u00a0<strong>Well, today we\u2019d like to share a little bit about what\u2019s been going on at CorkSport HQ with our very own 2018 Mazda 6. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Right off the bat, I can say we have a handful of exciting performance products in the works and will be sharing info on them as we make progress. \u00a0<strong>Today we want to talk about the <a href=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/2018-mazda-6-turbo-2.5l-intercooler-piping-upgrade.html\" title=\"\">intercooler piping<\/a>, specifically the cold side piping and the parts of the system. This is the piping that connects the outlet of the intercooler and the throttle body.<\/strong> \u00a0It is commonly referenced as the \u201ccold side piping\u201d because the charge (boosted) air has passed through the intercooler and is therefore cooler. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"681\" src=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/2018-mazda-6-intercooler-cold-pipe-1024x681.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10371\" srcset=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/2018-mazda-6-intercooler-cold-pipe-1024x681.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/2018-mazda-6-intercooler-cold-pipe-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/2018-mazda-6-intercooler-cold-pipe-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/2018-mazda-6-intercooler-cold-pipe.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The OE cold side piping consists of three main components. &nbsp;Starting on the right side of the image; we have the hard piping that connects to the intercooler and a soft rubber hose. &nbsp;Next is the soft rubber hose itself, which we will talk more about later. Lastly is the throttle body connection, which is the oddest part of this system. &nbsp;You can see why in the next image. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"681\" src=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/2018-mazda-6-throttle-body-connection-1024x681.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10372\" srcset=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/2018-mazda-6-throttle-body-connection-1024x681.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/2018-mazda-6-throttle-body-connection-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/2018-mazda-6-throttle-body-connection-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/2018-mazda-6-throttle-body-connection.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The above-mentioned intercooler hard pipe and the rubber hose are pretty common parts on modern turbocharged vehicles, but the throttle body connection is unusual from our experience. \u00a0<strong>The throttle body connection appears to be designed for a quick connection (and not-so-quick disconnection) during the vehicle assembly process.<\/strong> Unfortunately, this leaves a very odd connection flange on the throttle body itself. \u00a0Lastly are the fins inside the connection part; other than straightening the airflow entering the throttle body we don\u2019t see many purposes these.
