{"id":10346,"date":"2018-08-01T07:32:09","date_gmt":"2018-08-01T15:32:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/?p=10346"},"modified":"2021-01-06T13:36:02","modified_gmt":"2021-01-06T21:36:02","slug":"why-do-you-need-an-occ","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/why-do-you-need-an-occ\/","title":{"rendered":"Why do you need an OCC ??"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For those that don\u2019t know exactly what an OCC (<a href=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/index.php?dispatch=products.search&amp;q=oil+catch+can+6-889&amp;subcats=Y&amp;status=A&amp;pshort=%60Y%60&amp;pfull=%60Y%60&amp;pname=Y&amp;pkeywords=%60Y%60&amp;search_performed=Y\">Oil Catch Can<\/a>) is for, here is a quick rundown.<\/span><\/h1>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During normal operation of an internal combustion engine, there\u2019s a compressed air and fuel mixture inside the combustion chamber that is ignited and as a result, forces the piston down. <strong>A small amount of that ignited mixture leaks past the piston rings and ends up in the crankcase.<\/strong> This leakage is often referred to as \u201cblow-by\u201d (leakage past the piston rings), and is the reason every car has a PCV System in place (Positive crankcase ventilation) <\/span><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some of the oil, mist and other products settle along the engine intake and over time form a \u201cgunk.\u201d With newer cars being direct injected nowadays, this becomes an even larger problem when fuel is not passing over the intake valves and keeping them clean. \u00a0<strong>The OCC collects the PCV vapors and utilizes a baffle to trap the oil, fuel, and water particulates that are suspended in the air. <\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>These liquids will need to be drained periodically (we say with each oil change) of all the \u2018junk\u2019.<\/strong> NOTE: Monitoring how fast the can fills up, mirrors as a method of gauging engine heath.
