I knew what my mods would be, and the results to expect, and even learned a bit about the tuning process, all with the intent to \u201cstock out\u201d in less than an hour in the event I broke something on the car.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"684\" src=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/car-1024x684.jpg\" alt=\"Mazdaspeed 3 Drag Racing 500 WHP\" class=\"wp-image-10260\" srcset=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/car-1024x684.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/car-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/car-768x513.jpg 768w, https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/car.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But\u2026 the local Nator chapter wrapped their slithering hentai tentacles around me, and those thoughts of a mildly tuned car with the manners fully intact started to erode. &nbsp;The friends, the fun, and the performance results were an instant addiction.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"555\" src=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/jason-1024x555.jpg\" alt=\"Mazdaspeed 3 Community at tail of the Dragon\" class=\"wp-image-10261\" srcset=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/jason-1024x555.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/jason-300x163.jpg 300w, https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/jason-768x416.jpg 768w, https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/jason.jpg 1772w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Mazdaspeed Way<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In just a few short months I had sold that warranty back and started down the rabbit hole. \u00a0Trips to Epic NATOR Meets were an <strong>awesome influence, seeing cars on the bleeding edge of the DISI <a href=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/mazdaspeed-3\/\" title=\"\">Mazdaspeed<\/a> platform, and meeting several of the prominent people in the Mazda community who were so forthcoming with their knowledge.<\/strong> \u00a0The hook was set! <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>I found myself pursuing information, and if there wasn\u2019t any data to be had, I wanted to make it myself.<\/strong> &nbsp;I tested and cataloged a variety of items, from NVH with <a href=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/mazdaspeed-3-full-motor-mount-3-piece-set.html\" title=\"\">motor mounts<\/a> to compression test compendiums (yes Cylinder 3, you deserve that BAD rap!), meanwhile moving along the mod path to a <a href=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/2006-2013-disi-mzr-speed-3-turbo-upgrade.html\" title=\"\">medium turbo<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/mazdaspeed-3-performance-front-mount-intercooler-kit.html\" title=\"\">front mount intercooler,<\/a> and a <a href=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/mazdaspeed-3-fender-mounted-auxiliary-fuel-cell.html\" title=\"\">methanol kit<\/a>. &nbsp;Once I purchased a spare long block, I knew I was getting in ball joints deep.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"670\" src=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/long-block-1024x670.jpg\" alt=\"Modding the Mazdapseed 3 DISI engine\" class=\"wp-image-10266\" srcset=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/long-block-1024x670.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/long-block-300x196.jpg 300w, https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/long-block-768x502.jpg 768w, https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/long-block.jpg 1101w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mazdaspeed Power Mods<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fast forward to today. &nbsp;I\u2019ve been very fortunate to be chosen to test products for a handful of vendors! &nbsp;With an aligned focus &#8211; direct fit or minimal fabrication parts &#8211; I\u2019ve reached my (probably temporary) goal of <a href=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/what-it-takes-to-make-500-whp-in-your-mazdaspeed\/\" title=\"Recipe to Make a 500 HP Mazdaspeed 3\">500 wheel horsepower Mazdaspeed<\/a>! Where I\u2019ve tested the limits of products\/parts for many companies &#8211; whether they have asked me to or not. The CorkSport <a href=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/mazdaspeed-3.5-bar-map-sensor-pnp.html\" title=\"\">3.5 Bar Map Sensor<\/a> is a solid example of exceeding the envelope, as I did manage to over-boost while playing with my EBCS configuration, and pegging it at 37.58 PSI. (At 900 ft. ASL)<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/\">Corksport<\/a> asked me to describe my modification journey and how their beta parts have impacted my build and decisions, so there is no slight intended toward the multitude of other people involved in my project \u2013 that list is not short.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"953\" height=\"580\" src=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/intake-manifold.jpg\" alt=\"Mazaspeed 3 CorkSport engine mods\" class=\"wp-image-10262\" srcset=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/intake-manifold.jpg 953w, https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/intake-manifold-300x183.jpg 300w, https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/intake-manifold-768x467.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019ve run the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/mazdaspeed-3-intake-manifold.html\" title=\"\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Corksport intake manifold<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for nearly 2 years and just before the <a href=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/the-corksport-cst5-is-here\/\" title=\"The CorkSport CST5 is HERE!\">big turbo<\/a> transition. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>It gained 12 g\/s flow on the identical tune and no other modifications, so I knew it was an immediate upgrade. <\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong> I\u2019ve been hammering \u00a030+psi through it for the majority of that time, and my built engine is approaching 25 thousand miles with that duress. \u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The spark plugs have been pristine and uniform, indicating to me the flow is balanced in the runners. \u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>There is no better fitting upgrade intake manifold for the platform. \u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Testing For CorkSport<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The beta-testing portion of this journey has been pretty awesome. Constant emails and conversations back and forth with the CorkSport Engineering team, and support from installation, to checking in periodically afterward to see how the system is running and the part is performing for me and my particular set-up. <strong>I understand that I am not the only one running this part as a beta-tester, which just shows how thorough this company is with its beta-testing.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"544\" height=\"586\" src=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/AP.jpg\" alt=\"Mazdaspeed 3 COBB Accessport Dashboard\" class=\"wp-image-10265\" srcset=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/AP.jpg 544w, https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/AP-278x300.jpg 278w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 544px) 100vw, 544px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><a href=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/cobb-tuning-mazdaspeed-3-mazdaspeed-6-access-port-tuner-v3.html\" title=\"\">Mazdaspeed Accesport<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Barett, the CorkSport engineer, was probably annoyed with the \u2018data-whore\u2019 aspect of who I am, but man was it fun! Tracking my progress throughout and sending info back and forth fed the logical performance-driven sides of me for quite a while. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/throttle.jpg\" alt=\"Mazdaspeed 3 Intake Manifold\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/mazdaspeed-3-intake-manifold.html\" title=\"\">intake manifold<\/a> was recently combined with the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/performance-throttle-body-for-2006-2013-mazdaspeed.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Corksport 72mm throttle body<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which takes advantage of the IM\u2019s oversized opening, which I feel will scale up with even more power should I get the itch for ludicrous speed. &nbsp;There is zero loss of drivability with the throttle body mimicking the factory unit electronics and nothing for your tuner to battle with like the old days of trying to open up that choke point.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Getting Comfortable with Mazdaspeed Parts<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Wheel-Installed-From-Driver-Side-Door-Small-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"Mazdaseped 3 Steering Wheel\" class=\"wp-image-15890\" srcset=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Wheel-Installed-From-Driver-Side-Door-Small-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Wheel-Installed-From-Driver-Side-Door-Small-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Wheel-Installed-From-Driver-Side-Door-Small-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/corksport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Wheel-Installed-From-Driver-Side-Door-Small.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>While it\u2019s usually about performance parts for me, I have to say that I run a few of the CorkSport \u201ccomfort\u201d pieces and can genuinely say they are worth the investment.<\/strong> The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/corksport.com\/2010-2013-mazdaspeed-3-leather-steering-wheel.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CorkSport Performance Steering Wheel<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is just amazing! The contoured grips are a tremendous comfort for long drives, and the beefy upper section is awesome for the twisties on roads like the \u201cTail of the Dragon\u201d in NC.
