Description

The 3rd generation Mazda 3 and Mazda 6 have proven to be an excellent all-rounder performance car and daily driver, but with recent availability of supercharging and turbocharging the OEM clutch is finding its limit. With an increase in torque and horsepower combined with an aging chassis, these vehicles often require upgraded clutches to handle the increased performance. CorkSport has teamed up with X-Clutch to offer a performance upgrade for both the street and track.

Street & Track:

Featuring a lightweight alloy cover, 9.5” single sprung organic disc, performance steel flywheel, release bearing, replacement bolts, pilot bush and alignment tool. The peak torque capacity for this clutch is 440ft/lbs. It is designed for street & enthusiast level track use in the 2014-2018 Mazda 3 MT and 2013-2017 Mazda 6 MT; both naturally aspirated and forced induction.

  • Vehicle Fitment: 2014-2018 Mazda 3 2.5 Petrol & 2013-2017 Mazda 6 2.5 Petrol: equipped with the Manual Transmission.
  • Designed in Australia: Engineered and produced in Wingfield, Australia
  • Warranty Support: XClutch USA Inc. Clutch and Components are guaranteed to be free from defects in materials or manufacture from date of fitment, 12 months or 12,000 miles whichever occurs first. Click here for Details.

  • Performance Clutches can engage harsher, require other upgraded parts, and show weaknesses in your drive train which the stock clutch did not point out. Any of the X Clutch options will increase transmission noise along with other sounds from the engine with the replacement of the stock dual mass flywheel which is included in the kit.

First and foremost - this clutch is amazing. Quality of the materials is outstanding and performance certainly meets expectations given the price point. The difference from OEM clutch is night and day. I simultaneously installed the CorkSport TMM and the drivetrain feels so much more rigid and direct. This clutch is notably heavier than stock, and tolerance is lower. Less forgiving, but still street-friendly. You'll get some shudder from a dead stop if you aren't careful. The lighter flywheel also makes stalling easier. I'd otherwise give it 5, but I'm knocking a star for the lack of instructional content available for this install. I understand this part is XClutch branded and CorkSport is just a distributor, but there should be some content available from either party so that the layman knows what they're getting into with this part. A lack of prior experience in clutch jobs is detrimental, and there is no documentation online for this particular car aside from paid repos like AllData (AFAIK). All in all this was a long weekend project, about 16 hours of labor and a minimum of 1 buddy is required throughout the process. It would probably take 12 hours if you have a lift and 8-10 if you can get the tranny out without removing the subframe. (It's possible, but seems super sketchy.) Make sure to have a transmission jack and another jack to support the engine. If you wish to install the new pilot bearing, you'll need a proprietary Mazda bearing puller and you'll probably want to get a new rear main seal in while you're at it. I recommend this kit to anyone who is serious about increasing the performance of their Mazda and who, like me, is considering the CorkSport turbo kit in the future. I also recommend paying a shop to install it if you have the extra cash to save yourself the headache.

I cannot speak for the install on this unfortunately, but what I can attest to is that this clutch feels absolutely fantastic. It still retains 100% streetability thanks to an excellent feel and completely manageable weight. Even in heavy Chicago traffic I don't feel burdened by this clutch in the slightest. The kit comes with everything that would be needed for the install, and just comparing the OEM clutch to this one side-by-side is clearly a night and day difference when I was shown my old one. I feel much more confident with making power gains on my car knowing that I have a clutch to back it up!
