CorkSport was founded in early 1998 by Derrick Ambrose and Richard Harris in Portland Oregon. Mazda performance was almost non-existant except for the Miata and Rx7's back then. Our original aim was to serve the Mazda brand and offer performance products and support for all Mazda powered vehicles.
We developed a Mazda specialty website and marketed our products throughout North America. Our product line expanded as the market grew and we launched our own brand of products over 5 years ago. We continue to strive to be the best resource for Mazda performance for all Mazda powered cars; from parts to service, we do it all.
We live and breath Mazda's here. Almost everyone who has been affiliated with CorkSport drives them. Here's a short list of what's been through our hands over the years.
| 1st Generation Rx7, 1979-1985 |
At least five of these, from bone stock, ported 13B NA, to S4 turbo conversion. We even have one of only 100 Rx7 convertibles made by Pacific Avatar |
|
2nd Generation Rx7, 1986-1991 |
At least five more of these, from bone stock NA's to our turbo converted ragtop. |
| 2004 Rx8 |
We purchased one of the very first Rx8's sold in the USA. We even picked it up at the dock! Currently "Project Rx8", we use this car to test and develop products. |
| 1993 Mx3 |
"Project Mx3". We took a stock special edition and turned it into a high performance street machine! Check out Proect Mx3 in the Mx3 section of our site. |
| 1999 Miata |
Red sport model. Used for product development. |
| 2003 Protege |
Mazdaspeed Protege. We developed tested many products on this "third generation" car. We worked in conjuction with Unichip to develop the Power Series tuner chip. |
| Escort GT |
Several BP Turbo converted Escorts have come and gone. One still comes here everyday! |
| 323 GTX/GT |
Dang near every possible GTX modification has been done to Derrick's GTX. It's drag raced, auto-crossed and rally crossed. One of the few true, "GTX" guru's, Derrick is the source for 323 GTX performance. |
| 1993 Probe GT |
This particular Probe is no longer a street machine. Drag conversion in the works! |
| B2200, B2600 |
If your going to drive a pickup, It better be a Mazda! That's our position anyway. Currently working on a rotary powered 1988 4X4. |
| 2002 Protege5 |
Current Protege development vehicle. Many NA performance mods. Not enough, a turbo conversion is in the works! |
| 2001 MP3 |
Psycho turbocharged Mica Blue. The first production vehicle with an MP3 player, how neat. |
| 1999 Protege |
Complete motor swap. Stripped and build for speed. So far we've got it to sub 12 second 1/4 mile. We're headed for the sub 11's this year. |
| 1982 GLC |
What's that? Yup, we've even "built" a GLC from the inside. Speaking of old cars, we had an Rx2 and an 808 as well. |
| 1988 Festiva |
We've even converted this one with a turbocharger. |
| 1995 Millenia |
Mazda's luxury cruiser. Yup, sometimes you need floaticality! |
There's a few Mazda's that were made that did not make the list of cars we've owned. You can bet we've spent plenty of time working on them all, especally the 3rd generation Rx7!
We're in it because we love Mazda's! How else could you willingly drive a GLC.
